yeah uh...my money is still on Wanderlei.

Next year your money will probably be on the newest "Wanderlei"/MMA stud. I hear you.

If a system regularly produces powerful fighters, then it is a good system. Even if one is studying a good system but doesn't work hard or isn't taught well, then one won't be a good fighter. It is important to remember that martial arts literally means the art of fighting. Don't tell me how great your teacher or style is, because if I beat you, I am better than you. I wont tell you how long I have studied, because if you only have practiced for a day and beat me, you are better than me. Judging skill is that simple.

Maybe betting your money on Wanderlei would be a good bet, maybe not.

Misconceptions aside, taijiquan is a good martial art and an excellent foundation for any kung fu style. It's not just something for old people to do in the park (not all, but some of those old people could whup your ass without getting out of breath).

I am sorry but you know so little of martial art. Tai-chi is one form of martial art. Bruce Lee started off with tai-chi. JEET KUEN DO is something he invented from all the experience he had with many different form of martial art.

Tai-chi is practice slow so that the person can practice the movement and breathing. You CAN fight with tai-chi. You just have to make the movement faster. The philosophy behind tai-chi is use as little energy as possible to counter act a strong force.

No one is arguing that you can fight with Tai-Chi. You can fight with Tai-Chi, but you probably wouldn't win.

Facts are facts: if Tai-Chi was a successful at kicking people's asses, then you'd see a lot more MMA style fighters using it. They go with what works, and guess what...Tai-Chi, as a whole, doesn't.

You can point to someone who's ridiculous at Tai-Chi, and say "oh, see, they can kick people's butts", but that doesn't reflect on the martial art form, just the talent of the individual person.

If you took the same exact person, and trained them for 2 years in Muay Thai, and for 2 years in Tai-Chi, the Muay Thai person would destroy the Tai-Chi person.

That's not to say Tai-Chi is a "wussy" martial art. It promotes balance, flexibility, and overall healthy well-being. It's an artform that you can practice until your 80 years old, something you can't do with Muay Thai.

If your goals are to pick up something you enjoy, something that'll let you meet chicks, make you flexible, and disciplined, there's nothing wrong with Tai Chi. If you want to go with something to be able to "defend yourself" and "kick some ass", then your time and money are probably best spent elsewhere.

There's nothing wrong with either one- like everything, it depends on what your goals are.

Bruce Lee started with Wing Chun, realized it was crap, and stopped training in it. He's also fucking dead, so it doesn't matter.
