Embarassed about style knowledge

I am a straight male (not that being gay has anything to do with this), but being on this forum, and in general, I know alot about style, both mens and women. Styles, rules, designers, etc... Last night at dinner we were talking about bridesmades dresses when one of the girls I was with started describing the dress and I said, 'oh so its an a-line dress', and everyone gave me a dirty look, like why do you know that. This comes up alot, I told my boss one day that I like the roped shoulders on his suit and he was like what are you talking about.

So my question, is when you are in the general population, do you get embarassed about your extensive knowledge of fashion and try to keep quiet?

Part of style is knowing how to play the game and when to keep your mouth shut.

Then why bring it up?

Did you think the looks they gave you were dirty "I can't stand this guy" looks or questioning "who's the Mary over there?" looks?

I'm pretty sure they ask that question when they look at you, not him.

I would have given you the same look. Mind explaining how you came into your extensive knowledge of women's dresses?

This from the "guy" who gets wet over Patti Lupone and retarded Broadway shows?

It's too bad you don't wear a monocle and an ascot, or else the situations you described would have been funny. For us.

Unless you're a designer or a fashion design student, I don't know why any man would have extensive knowledge of womens dresses. I would have busted your balls for a while after hearing that.

Haha, who am I kidding, I would probably have done the same thing. But it wasnt like I was lecturing, it was more like 'oh I know what it is'.

Jgold, no worries I know stuff like that too (have two older sisters). I think your mistake was just letting the wrong ppl know that you know that.

There's nothing wrong with gaining knowledge, just don't be one of those know-it-all types, at least pretend not to be.
