I suppose so. I don't know that 'Trads' are the only ones who advocate it. Isn't that part of the purpose of a quality welted shoe?

That's exactly it. A lot of people do advocate it, yet there seems to be only so many (here) that have gone through with it...And as much as I've abused the search function, I haven't been able to find pictures of a factory EG recraft, or factory recraft of an English shoe of any make.

I'm actually looking forward to my first AE factory recraft, but I suspect it is still some time away. I have no idea where I'd send my English shoes for a recraft.

I've had several Church's recrafted at the factory. Always been impressed with the work done. On the last pair which went in at 10 years old , they put new toe puffs in, new insoles as well as of course a new sole and heel. They polished them up and sent them back to me with new shoe bags too.

Not had any of my EGs recrafted yet but will do when the time comes

Do a SEARCH ... Kettering is a region afaik, could well be a now defunct maker or shoe store ...

These might have a little too much character... They are Edward Green for Paul Stuart. I figured for 5 bucks it was worth it just to take them home and get a better look, plus they are actually my size. I used cleaner/conditioner and shoe cream, but I'm not sure if anything can be done for them and black captoes don't seem like a good choice for distressed shoes. There is one crack that goes all the way through. Do you guys have any ideas?

I don't have my camera so the pictures are not great.

I've used both AE and Alden recraft, and was pleased with both. On the English makers since many purchase them at a discount and the dollar has been so weak factory recrafts have been close to cost prohibitive. Also, I think many of us have 1) enough shoes that recrafting isn't something that is needed very often, and 2) most of us have purchased said shoes during the past 3-4 years and there simply hasn't been time to wear them down (especially with #1 as a factor).

Perhaps the stronger dollar will spur some to ship them over.
