How much longer does eau de toilettes last than body sprays? - Page 2

I thought of a few more things to keep in mind. 1) One more thing that might affect duration for you is the type of scent you are using/seeking. It seems as though you are leaning towards sporty/fresh types that are largely based around citrus notes. Keep in mind that these notes are typically the shortest and most fleeting. This is why they are typically just used as top notes. 2) Heavier, deeper notes generally last longer (that's why they are used as the basenotes, which come out towards the end). Thus, you may also want to try some fragrances with more patchouli, leather, amber, etc. 3) I've been trying to think of a few "sillage monsters" that last for days and yet are quite nice and pleasant and obtainable online for discount. The first that came to mind was Yves Saint Laurent Body Kouros. This one projects like crazy and lasts a very long time. Yves Saint Laurent Opium Pour Homme is another. I'm wearing Lalique Pour Homme today and had forgotten how long this one lasts and how much it projects, too, in either the EdT or EdP concentrations. Costume National Scent Intense, Guerlain L'instant Pour Homme or Heritage or Habit Rouge, Givenchy Gentleman, JPG Le Male, Versace Blue Jeans (Man) or Versace Dreamer are all a few that come to mind that last pretty well and are generally obtainable online at a reasonable price. Under no circumstance should you spend retail at a department store unless it is something extraordinary. Go sniff at the store, then go and buy online. www.scentiments.com, www.scentedmonkey.com, www.fragrancenet.com are all reputable sites (I recommend sentiments, but that's just because I've used them many times)

Thanks rach2jlc, that last post was the "good stuff" what I wanted to know.

I live in Canada so using US online retailers are a bit inconvenient for me since it seems a lot of them ship by couriers (some exclusively) which I hate, as they always try to charge ridiculous, highly-inflated "brokerage fees" for anything that crosses the USA/Canada border. If I ever order something from the USA, I'd only do so if they were willing to ship my order to me via US Postal Service, which thankfully, is honest about all their charges.

I found a local discount perfume shop near me that seems to have okay prices, although I noticed that the Canadian MSRPs seem to be way higher than the US MSRP, even though the Canadian dollar is now worth more. That ticks me off quite a lot. When are the Canadian prices for colognes going to change to reflect the value of the Canadian dollar? It seems right now Canadians are getting a raw deal on cologne prices. It seems generally the cheapest I can find good 100ml colognes in CAD is ~$65 yet I see them listed on US sites for ~$30 or $40 USD. I guess that is another reason why I said Tag body sprays are most cost effective, since US residents apparently get better deals on colognes.

I suppose I'll go buy a bottle of 100ml Body Kouros in person for $65 CAD. Probably won't do much better after shipping/brokerage charges from a US site. Although if I would please feel free to correct that info.

The store I'm buying it from has it's prices and the items it carries listed here: http://www.perfumeplus629.com/

What do you guys think is the best deal on powerful, long-lasting cologne that that store has? Ie: Body Kouros level powerful or higher.

What is the best powerful EDP cologne that is relatively cheap? (I realize it probably wouldn't be carried by the store I just linked to as they have a limited selection, so I mean this question in a general sense from any store).

I bought some 100ml Body Kouros and it definitely wouldn't last for 1 year unless I hardly ever use it. I bought it a few weeks ago. Didn't even use it every day, and it's already ~1/3rd gone.

I'm bringing this up because I think it has relevance to the comments about cologne not being more cost effective than body spray. I am starting to think maybe those sentiments are based on only using a miniscule portion of cologne that isn't enough to get noticed (which for me, I would never do that since that's pointless IMO).

I notice there are tons of posts on this site that are hating on AXE body spray. The amount of posts about that seem to indicate that AXE body spray is very common. IMO it stands to reason that the reason it is more common than cologne is because it's more cost effective than cologne. But if that is not the reason then feel free to correct this post with what the reason is why AXE body spray is more common than cologne.

Find a seller on ebay that ships to Canada via USPS if you're worried about unhonest brokerage fees, ect. You'll get a good deal and reasonable shipping.

I think a lot of the people here might also have rotations going. I generally don't like to smell the same fragrance on myself for more than a day so I often end up wearing any given fragrance once or twice a week. This means that a 100mL bottle is likely to last 2 or more years in my hands.

Also, you might be over applying it. You should really only be spraying yourself once or twice per application. First on a wrist, then you rub your wrists together. Next you can spray the front of your neck/upper chest or just rub your wrists against your neck. If you spray more than twice, the fragrance you have will probably be overbearing.

As other people have said, a lot of this has to do with your body chemistry. You should try to go pick some samples from the fragrance counters at your local department stores. Try stuff on the tester strips, tell the salesperson that you have Body Kouros but are looking to build a rotation/collection, tell them what you liked on the tester strip, and then tell that you'd like some samples to see what it smells like on your skin. (How something smells on your skin is pretty important. I almost bought Green Irish Tweed by Creed because I really liked the way it smelled on a tester strip. However, I couldn't stand it when I tried a sample from a store on my skin.)

Best of luck.

Your posts bring to mind the old saying "if your are complimented by a stranger on your cologne then you are wearing too much of a good thing"
Meaning: random people should not be able to smell you.
Cut back on how much you use and when that fine bitch finally does gets next to you , she'll be pleasantly surprised.

Sigh... I think your approach to this entire thing is completely off, as it has been from the beginning... so probably the best thing to do is just keep buying Axe. That's really all you are wanting us to say, right?

Nevertheless, no matter how you want to cut it, no matter what "cost effective" models you want to create, Axe is to Parfumery what Boone's Farm is to fine wine. Period. It's not more common because it is cost effective; it is more common because it's very cheap and available EVERYWHERE from Wal-mart to the local drugstore to a gas station convenience store.

As for the YSL BK, if you are through 1/3 a bottle of BK already, you're overapplying and probably knocking everybody down within a 1/4 mile radius of you. BK has lots of sillage and just because you can't smell it doesn't mean everybody else can... in great abundance. Spray it once on your neck and perhaps once on each wrist, don't rub, let it dry. Really, once on the neck OR once on each wrist is probably MORE than enough. If you are using more than 2-3 sprays of BK, it's WAY too much.

+1000. I have some scents that even one full spray is a bit much.

But my guideline is this: I smell it after applying. If I can smell myself (without looking for my scent) in the car on the way to work, I'm slightly concerned. If I can smell myself in my office, I'm worried. Once we apply a scent, our noses get habituated to that scent, and we no longer notice it. However, passers-by are not so lucky, and you might well be gassing everyone nearby with the scent your nose has already gotten used to.

And if you think your classmates or colleagues will be honest with you, they won't. They'll generally suffer in silence unless someone's allergic.
