Steinway M grand piano, cant sell :(

Thread Starter
we have a Steinway M grand piano taking up way too much space in our living room and we dont play it much so were trying to sell it. my dad said that i would get a comission if i sell it for him and i really want coilovers for my car so ive been trying pretty hard to sell it.

i will not sell though, weve taken the price from 35k to 30k and still, no buyers. that seems reasonable for a 2002 Steinway M (2006s sell for 42k)

so far ive tried craigslist, ebay and local classifieds. are there any other places that i could place an ad? is there something i could do to get this sold faster? do you want to buy it ?

thanks

Have you tried a piano forum / message board?

dude... use your brain. Who the fuck would buy a piano off craigslist? You think people with the money to spend on a Steinway know how to use Craigslist?

Private sales don't work unless you have a very large network. Even full time, professional musicians with hundreds of friends in the industry (many of whom have lots of money) don't try to sell their shit by themselves. Take it to a well reknowned shop, or sit with it forever, and if you do sell it privately, better get a very, very good contract drawn up by a lawyer so that if/when something happens to it you aren't held responsible.

I'd agree with this, although even though it's a lot of money I'm not sure you need an attorney.

My parents sold a Steinway M grand a few years ago...not a huge market.

Dude, put a for sale sign on it and leave it in a parking lot near a major intersection where alot of traffic will accumulate.

easy peasy

I actually sold mine to the blind institute for people who have no hands. They absolutely love it!

To the OP, you're going to need patience for this one.

Not a lot of people are going to have $30K cash to buy a Steinway. Although I don't think Craigslist is the way to go, are you only posting in cities around your vicinity? I'm sure it's a lot of effort to arrange shipping for the thing, but I wouldn't be surprised if the number of people looking for the piano you are selling that live within a 100 mile radius of you is zero.

I'll give you $1,000 for it.

$1,001 here

You're going to have to take a huge markdown on it. 20k at least if you want any reasonable chance of selling it.

Gee, that's too bad... Once it is gone for a while, wont you start to miss it? What will you play instead? Get a spinet? Drag out the Fender Rhodes?

Its an '02? If this were a Corvette, I would say you are going to be up against "used car prices" for a while. Let it sit for a spell and get rare. Then it will be worth more.

Why would you not just take it to a dealer?
