two fevers in 2 weeks after rainforest trip

I thought nothing of the first fever because there seemed to be flu going around, but this one is accompanied by all the classics symptoms. Do I take the Dilaudid for the pain or Malarone in case it's malaria? I'm gonna take a cab to the travel clinic tomorrow for tests, but in the meantime, I'm not exactly comfortable.

I remember from a vector biology course that malaria usually has cycles of chills and fevers. How ya doin?

Do you think it might be Ebola? It's not Ebola is it? Could be Ebola... Gee I hope it's not EBOLA..

Not to scare you, but there are tons diseases you could've possibly contracted... malaria, dengue, or something else viral. Going to a doctor is the right thing to do, in the meantime rest and lots of liquid might help.

GQ, would you mind putting "Dakota rube" tags on your stuff? Just in case. Oh, and leave a key to your place under the mat for me.

Are you sure this is not a "parting gift" from your ex-GF?

See if you can track down a tropical disease specialist. Typical MDs do not have much exposure with this kind of stuff. Another option is to find docs that have spent time in developing countries/tropical zones. Tons of those docs find their way to the US.

What part of the country are you located in?

I was traveling on and off the silk route in NW china a decade or so ago. Got home and got hit with some bug I had picked up maybe an hour after arriving! Next 2 weeks were ugly. Lost 10 + pounds. Blacked out while walking a few yards etc. Took me a while to get my strength back.

Oh, cram it up your ass. For as intelligent as you are, I'm sure you could come up with something far wittier. Don't lower yourself to Conne's level.

Jon.

I feel so loved.

I went to bed as soon as I got home last night and just got up. I'm actually feeling quite a bit better now. Yesterday I was really rough though. I always get a little sore when i have the flu, but yesterday i could hardly walk because my lower back was hurting so much and the joint pains were much more acute than normal. I guess we'll see what happens in a couple days. From what i know the cycles occur at 2-3 day intervals. I'm taking malarone though, so if it's malaria, that should help. I have an appointment at a travel clinic next thursday.

RJ, can you send the poster to Dakota instead?

I'm thinking seek treatment immediately. It's either (seriously): Dengue Fever (could progress of DHF) Yellow Fever Oropouche Fever Spike Lee's Jungle Fever (joke) Just treat it symptomatically for now until you get a diagnosis in the ED/Clinic/CDC Quarantine (serious) Also convert your bedroom in to a negative pressure isolation room (joke)

Yes find one. The British are notoriously good tropical disease specialists. Get yourself a good English doctor.
