Polo suit pocket tags...ID?

Not sure if MC or B&S is the right forum, but I am considering buying, so I guess I will post it here:

I found a suit on ebay that looked to be close to my size (rare) made by "polo ralph lauren". The seller has over 16,000 reviews, 100% positive. However, looking at the pictures, I was unsure. Further, the item description listed the suit as "made in USA". I emailed the seller about the suit, and they were very responsive. They sent detail pictures of the hem and inner waist of the pants that looked quite bad. I then asked for pictures of the pocket tags in the suit, and this is what they sent:

Here is the listing on ebay

I assume something that looks to good to be true... is.

any comments?

It's real, it's just old. I think I've read people say the older U.S.A. ones are indeed good quality, but it's a little outdated, that's all.

THat's the old American made Polo. It's usually good quality but it's sufficiently old that styling can sometimes be dated. Ask her about the shoulder padding.

Thanks for the quick replies. I figured it might be worth the $29.99... but now I see that someone has bid since I posted... guess that will learn me for posting in the B&S forum.. lol

I don't think the styling of this suit is super outdated (lapels don't look super wide), but thanks for the tip on the shoulder padding. The jacket might be narrow enough to take out the padding and still fit, but it is something to consider. I will watch it, and if it stays below $50 might be worth grabbing just to experiment on (and stuff that will actually fit me shows up so rarely it is worth getting just for that reason!)

Yeah, I noticed the 38L. $50 is certainly worth it.

FWIW, I've dealt with this seller before - they sell a lot of old used suits, probably thrifted from their local area. Most of the suits are bad, but they get the occasional decent vintage suit IIRC. Got an old BB Golden Fleece from them for cheap - they seem to be honest and reliable.

To my eye the jacket is very outdated like late-80's. Look how the lapel extends so far that it covers some of the chest pocket. Then, look how low the top button is set. Add to that the probability that the shoulder padding is too wide. I wouldn't buy it. The basics are just too far off, IMO.

The lapel width doesn't bother me -- I don't put much stock in that, within reason. But the button stance is very low. The shoulders may be wide and strong, too.

That said, it's most likely a fully canvassed coat of good quality.

Regarding the button stance, I agree BUT I was down at the Polo store in Chicago yesterday and tried on a beautiful khaki-colored Black Label and the button stance was even lower. The jacket had VERY thin lapels and VERY short dual vents which I could live with but the super-low button stance combined with the high gorge seemed a little over-the-top. Overall my impression was modified retro or something
