So I want to buy a MacBook… - Page 3

The writing is on the wall ( whatever that means)

"A recent survey of nearly 2000 professionals and students have named Apple has the most inspiring brand and one that respondents could not live without.

The results come in the wake of another poll of about 12,000 U.S. business decision-makers which indicate that Microsoft has dropped from the number 12 ranking of most powerful U.S. company brands in 2004, down to number 59 this past year. Further underscoring the trend, Microsoft previously ranked #1 in a similar brand survey in 1996. The fall in rank reflects a drop in the following ratings: overall reputation, perception of management, and investment potential"

There is no way that any significant percentage of those people find their computers as unreliable as you Mac-lovers claim. If they did, trust me, they would have all switched to Mac by now. Yes, some people will have problems. The number of windows users who have problems still probably outnumbers the total number of people who own Macs. But THAT STILL IS A TINY FRACTION of people.

I am not particularly vigilant about spyware. I run maybe a quick sweep a month. If that. I currently use Search and Destroy resident and Windows firewall as protection. Thats it. I have no spyware! Not a single virus. And my computer has been on, connected to the internet without rebooting for...lets see... according to my display...47,831 minutes (which is roughly 33 days).
Admittedly, I've had some problems in the past, most of which I attribute to shady "free" porn sites and Kazaa. Ever since I switched to BitTorrent, I have had exactly zero problems.

everyone I know has crashing problems that they don't know how to fix. My one friend who does really get along with his is a programmer who knows how to fix all his problems.

That is not true. You know me. I am not a programmer.

I'd say, conservatively, 70-80% of PC owners don't know how to fix their general problems (updating drivers, monitor issues, etc.).

Uh... updating software and drivers is pretty much done automatically on anything that needs to be done. If its not done automatically, there is a prompt.

What kind of monitor issues? And how do "monitor issues" on a PC differ from those on a Mac? You can use any monitor you can use with a PC on 80% of the Macs available today (with the exception of the Air, Mac Mini, and maybe one other one... which either don't have the right ports, or are somehow incapable of pushing certain size monitors)

Apple makes it easy for these people by having a standardized hardware arrangement and a very simplified updating process. Microsoft has a bad reputation for reliability for good reason.

In your opinion, 80-95% of the world is stupid. That is your reason? I respectfully disagree.

Apple has kept it pretty clean, and centralized, efficient service keeps things swept under the table and off the internet forums.

LOL, you obviously don't read the same internet forums I read.

Yes, see, this is exactly what I have an issue with. How the hell are product brands "inspiring"???

These people are part of a cult.

Hmm... the overall reputation as the world's number one selling home and office user interface.

Perception of management. Ok, so Ballmer is fat, sweaty, and completely crazy. I'll give them that. I'd still rather watch one of his keynotes than one from Jobs. He is far more entertaining. Plus, he wears a tie.

Investment potential isn't my area, but didn't MS's quarterly earnings greatly exceed experts estimates recently, driving the stock price a bit higher, and didn't Apple stock take a big dive right after the Air was announced? Maybe I'm mistaken.

on another note, so many mac users don't know how to open up full functionality of their unix based operating systems. Mac problems are just as plentiful as PC problems, don't believe the hype otherwise. I've been in the field as a tech for 7 years now, and fucking DREAD when Mac's die, because many times it's hardware failure (logicboards fucking die all the time). I haven't seen 1 PC motherboard die in my years.

I have a Macbook as it's smaller, lighter, better wifi reception, and longer battery life than the Macbook Pro.

It's a current model (2.0 Ghz Santa Rose, 4GB 300GB HDD [installed afterwards]). I run Parallels for a few Windows apps I need.

Absolutely no complaints. Much better than my old 12" Powerbook G4.

It came in 3 hours ago and finished charging 30 minutes ago. I'll play around with it this weekend and post impressions.

James, I know you'll pray for my soul.

It is quite clear to me now that praying for your soul would be a waste of my time. Mac owners have none.
