Dumb Q - "Good" ice cube trays?

I need some new ice cube trays as mine are cracked and leaky. Are there any that are particularly better than the cheap kind? I found some silicone trays on some site, are those good? I don't want to spend a ton but if I'm buying some, they may as well be decent.

Preferably: easy to get the ice out, efficient cube volume to fridge size ratio, don't make smelly/weird tasting cubes, easy to clean, cheap, etc.

Thanks.

Very funny. I bought ice cube trays just last week. I had the silicone kind, where you can get ice in usual shapes (we had Xs and Os), but they drove me crazy because it was hard to get the ice out. I went to Bed Bath and Beyond and bought the cheapest they had and they are actually very well designed. Light, easy to get the ice out, and good for overflow between the cubes. They were an opaque light blue plastic, and I think $3.95. The cubes are large.

I think you may have trouble ejecting the cubes from a silicon tray.

Don't buy these Oxo trays. That lid is a bitch.

There's always the Gucci G ice tray...

The silicone ones I'm thinking of would be just cube shapes and they're flexible rubbery stuff so I would think they'd be easy to pop out. I could see how X's and O's would be hard to get out though.

They are easy to use if you let the ice melt a little, but who wants to do that. Honestly, they are really a pain, and I wouldn't recommend them at all.

I have the silicon kind in the cube shapes and I'm pretty happy with them. I don't find them difficult to get out either. Edit: I think these are the ones i have.

Other than durability, I can't imagine a tray being better designed than the classic ice cube tray. Don't you love the feeling of twisting it and having all the cubes break free?

Bummer...I read the topic as "Dumb O" and figured it was gonna be a thread on bashing Rachel Ray.

J go to some Linnens and Things or Target and get a Bottle ice tray.
It is the only type that you can shake or splash one side with a hot water to get all ice loose. And most importantly it prevents your ice from stinking like inside of your refrigerator.

^Another in a long string of posts to remind me of just how old I really am.... How many of you have ever seen the real "classic ice cube tray", made of metal with a lever handle to break the cubes free?

We had a couple of those in our old Philco refrigerator. They work pretty well, IIRC. Maybe I should go with that style, but I can't remember if it makes metallic-tasting cubes.

If you really want to know, PM me. I remember precisely when I first saw color tv. A whole crowd had gathered around it. Honestly.
