Boy, that wouldn't stop me if I were an 8.5. A little sandpaper; maybe a little black paint....

If you haven't tried EGs before, the fit is much snugger overall. AE is a high-volume shoe, while EG is a low-volume shoe. Some folks like their EGs to fit very snuggly at first, so they'll stretch with wear. Definitely don't size down, but other than that, I'll leave it to others to say. I tend to be an outlier on these things.

Damn, who took the sz. 11 Harrington's? They were in my cart, then I tried to purchase them, then they were no longer available!?

I ended up with Grants in sz. 11. I have Mackays in sz 11. I hear a lot about sizing up and down 1/2 size for the monks. Not sure how applicable it is, but I'm assuming I'm okay sticking with the same size?

Is that right? Not on the more usual RLPL 89 last?

I'm pretty sure, but I'm just going off the top of my head. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.

But here are my black Grants with the Wakely on 89:

This is reminiscent of two Aprils ago and Bennies....

But just what shade of brown is that on the Grants - I'm guessing Chestnut.
