Need a Desk

I'm in need of a desk for doing schoolwork. Where can I get something of good quality and not in a funky modern design (student budget)? Is the stuff from Target junk?

My ex-girlfriend furnished her old apartment w/ Target furniture. It's about as good as Ikea. It should serve you well for a few years or more. You might try Craigslist first for something nice but used. If you live in DC, I can get you one that a friend wants to get rid of.

What's a "funky modern design?"

I had a desk kinda like that from Ikea when I was in the 4th grade except it was painted white, I thought it was funky (not in a good way, in the OP way.) That gio ponti thingy looks like a coffee table from the '70s. Does it come with purple shag carpet? But then again, what do I know about furniture, I always did my homework on my dining table.

Are you near a university? Our school has a surplus department that sells to the public.

Pretty much any cheap desk you get is going to be laminated crap so it doesn't matter where you buy it. I'd rather get a solid steel desk from surplus. Last you forever.

^ That's a good suggestion. A steel desk would be pain to move, but at least it wouldn't fall apart in a move.

Someone on craigslist is selling this desk and chair for $100:

He also has this dresser with attachable mirror for $175:

He says they're oak.

^ It's not my style, but if it's yours, and if it's really oak, maybe even if it's only a veneer, I'd go for it.
