What's up with RL shoe prices?

After the recent thread about the new MTM Edward Green prices...I wandered by the RL store here in ATL and the Marlow/Darlton cordovan shoes (all of them...the blucher, wingtip, penny loafer, and the tassel) were now a whopping 795.00!
Funny thing was that the calf versions in black are 695.00. Are these price increases crazy? I mean the penny loafers are still 595.00 on the website and I remember not too long aga that the wingtips were 595 (both calf and cordovan) just a couple of years ago. Is it the weak dollar or the shortage in cordovan? Wow is all I can can say to a 200.00 increase in two years!

shoes are made abroad, leather is sourced from abroad, and US dollar sucks.

Glad I bought my cordovan wingtips (on sale) when I did!

I think all the above statements are true....especially the last one above because a shoe box had 695.00 crossed out on the box and 795.00 stamped above it. Same shoes that were sitting there a month ago just 100.00 more expensive.... the prices online are still 100.00 to 200.00 dollars lower.

Thank God

for Styleforum members who bought two pairs of new Darltons last Fall and were willing to sell the illfitting pair for a fair price. May those SF members be forever blessed!

It's still pretty crazy. Last year and the year before cordovan Darltons were going for $256 on sale.

I got the cord loafers and Darltons this winter on sale, even offered to sell the extra pair that was half a size off for cost, but no one took me up on it. Timing is everything I guess, nice to win one for a change!

I remember a pair of Darlton cordovan wingtips someone had worn once but they were too small. He bought them for 256 and tried for weeks to sell them for $200.

RL shoes always go on sale. I bought a pair of penny loafers from them for full-price once, 6 months later the same shoes were half price. They have so many random sales that its not worth it to buy anything there for regular price, because even if its a staple item they make every year, like the penny loafers, they still go on sale.

Not really a question whether any RL shoes go on sale. What forum members focus on is whether the EG or C&J made RLPL shoes are on sale. And especially with the EG made, it hasn't in a while.

All the shoes go on sale for 40% off twice a year....but the number of EG and C&J shoes is dwindling. I believe anything that's left is old stock. It appears all their new shoes are made in Italy.

It does appear that the number of English made shoe models are decreasing. All of the cordovan boxes on the shoes that I have bought were definetely old stock (Polo by Ralph Lauren-made in England) whereas the black calf Dalton was new stock (it had Ralph Lauren-Made in England inscribed on it with the print being the same as the new made in Italy shoes). Perhaps there is no new stock cordovan being made? It could be a reason for the drastic price increase. I did not notice any restocking of the cordovan sizes online recently.

The website has an overwhelmingly Italian made selection. Anyone know if the Edward Greens they make now are labled as "Ralph Lauren Purple Label" or are all the shoes under just the "Ralph Lauren" label?
