Levis = is US less good quality than Eu?

How can a jean made in Turkey or Tunisia be better than an US one? Is it because people buy much more jeans in US and so do not care about how long they will keep them or is it bullshit?

Does Levi's still make jeans in the US? I thought they no longer did.

I've heard this too. I think it's true, only because I think it would be hard to beat the American market 501s for bad denim quality.

ernest: I believe the Levis jeans made in the USA are a more expensive line (more expensive workers). However: regarding your question of: "How a jean made in Turkey (or any other country) could be better than one made in the USA?". Simple.... Someone in another country may have to work really hard because the job they have is the only way they get to eat. Someone in our country (USA) may not need to work as hard: the worst thing that could happen is that he/she gets fired, and has to get some government assitance (living and eating for free).

Working hard doesn't imply making good quality but great quantity...

I don't think that public assistance in the US is anything much of a comfort when one loses one's job. If anything, it's reprehensible that the richest nation on earth lacks the willingness to take care of it's poorer citizens.

If you're asking whether the US market or EU market 501s are better, I'm not sure, but even if the US markets are "Made in USA" (which some of them say they are) they may be made of inferior fabric compared to the EU market 501s. I've never seen a problem with the construction of any Levi's product personally, no matter where it was made, but the fabric quality differs very widely from model to model. If you are looking for good ones, from what I've read here and seen in stores you would be best off with the Vintage 501s line, because the fabric is so much better than the US mass market version.

I bought a pair of 505s last weekend (the first Levis I'd purchased in 10 years) and I was pleased with the denim quality--softer and smoother than I remembered. For the price ($27), I think they're pretty good quality.

My guess: I don't think most American consumers care about the quality. They care about the price. We've just taken it for granted the quality we've had in the past. I don't think it'd be too far of a stretch to say that part of the reason we have so many goods so cheap (or have to do all sorts of things to continue to be able to offer them inexpensively) is that if it weren't for the feeding of the American beast -- of taming it through consumption, there'd probably be domestic unrest everywhere. It's only cheap vcrs, televisions, and a cornucopia of consumer goods that quell an instiinct to riot.
