Anyone disappointed with the C&J Weymouth?

I realize that even raising the topic may be sacrilegious here, so for the record, I own a bunch of C&Js and love them all... except the Weymouth. I picked it up recently based on the ubiquitous and unanimous recommendations on SF - and it's the only C&J I've been disappointed with.

First, the brown isn't antique at all - just a plain flat brown (nothing like the brown on the Savile, which I love). Second, the shape just sort of looks like a blob. None of the other 337 shoes I have look quite this way, including, again, the Savile, which might have the highest propensity to look blob-ish since it has no toe decoration.

Did I just get an off pair (regarding the coloring)? What does anyone else think? I was planning to wear them with a navy suit for interviews, etc., but now am not sure.

A sample size of 1 is, shall we say, grossly inadequate.

You need to purchase at least two other pairs of Weymouth to make a proper comparison.

Don't suppose you're a 10.5E UK?

I think wholecuts don't look so good in large sizes.

I like my Hanovers, which is just the Weymouth without the medallion:

I've always disliked the "ram's horn" medallion on the Weymouth and most of the other Handgrades on the 337 last.

I like mine, but you're right about the color. I guess the patina must be earned, not purchased.

Is that the consensus on the Weymouth in brown? Seems like antiquing is better on all the other C&Js I have. Just curious. Any thoughts for "lightening" it or getting some more interesting color without darkening it (almost too dark already)?

Too bad... I've only worn them 2-3 times. They work as part of the rotation, but doing it over, I'd probably grab another Monk instead. I'd make a deal if anyone's interested.

I was just agreeing with OP, in that I was also expecting a bit of antiquing when I first got mine. I'm happy with the color, and have also been rotating the polishes I use between a lighter brown and a medium brown with the hope of stimulating a bit more visual interest in the leather's color.

So a lighter brown polish works for you? I might try that. Just thought it might be hard to lighten given the base color.
