Trainer in NYC w/o Gym Membership?

I'm thinking of starting regular workouts, but want a trainer -- I haven't worked out in a while and need the motivation.

On the other hand, I'm not planning to go to the gym on my own (I've got an elliptical machine at home for cardio) outside of weekly trainer sessions.

Anyone have recommendations for where to find a trainer at a private gym, so I don't have to pay for gym membership on top of training sessions?

Good idea/bad idea (for those who have tried it)?

I'm near Union Square in NYC and would want to work out during the day on weekdays...

thanks in advance for any tips.

Different tack - why dont you meet a trainer in the park and focus on bodyweight workouts?

On my way to my gym I often pass this place, and it's right by Union Square. Their sign is very proud of the lack of membership fees. Sounds perfect for you.

After reading the site, I find this stipulation to be utter BS:

Or there's my gym down the street, $40 a month and $40 a session personal training. Open 24 hours every day of the year, lift weights even when you're alone at 4am. Though, the cabbies like to workout around then.

I'm always torn between working out at 7 pm and 10 pm. At 10 pm the only people at the gym are the ones who actually want to be there, and even then there is hardly anyone there, thus machines are always available, and no one ever has to wait.

On the other hand at 7 pm the eye candy is fantastic, chicks wearing tight clothing and moving in ways that tighten their already tight parts...makes me want to Morel them.

yeah, my problem is that the gym down the street is equinox on broadway/20th, and it's beacoup bucks...

14th St. between 5th and 6th is Gym Row. There's a NYSC, a gym for women, Clay, and 24/7 Fitness Club (which is where I go). On 13th I think there is a Crunch and a HRC as well. Then there is a Bally's up 6th Avenue, and that Hanson Personal Training place on Broadway.

24/7 is cheapest, though if you care about more than the weights you'll probably want the next step up, which I suppose is Crunch or something. Clay looks really nice.

that's actually really helpful, $40/month is a lot less than equinox

i'm also going to check out the McBurney Y, farther down 14th, which is about the same and has lots of classes as well as a pool...

in case anyone else is interested, the Hanson Fitness place charges $100/session.
