Ernest, there are at least 3 "types/qualities" of the classic 501s. First there is the standard "Red Tab" 501s, which you find everywhere, then there is the "Premium" 501s, which is different mainly because of the washes/effects on the denim. Lastly, and most different is the "Levis Vintage Clothing" 501s. These are made in the USA using original selvedge denim from the original source. There are different fits according to the model year: eg. 1933 fits very different from 1966. These are the best 501s in terms of quality, and "originality"

I was talking about the simple red line, because you can find many 501 in supermarket at 30% less than in retail store. Are they the same in quality of fabrics and construction?

Ernest, I think in terms of construction and fabrics, all 501s are the same EXCEPT for the Levis Vintage Clothing, which has better fabrics and better construction. Those are the only ones made in the USA

It seems to me that fabrics are less thick. Have you levi's in supermarkets?

Here in Holland we don't have Levis in the supermarkets, which supermarkets there? Auchamps? The Levis Vintage Clothing 501's have different thickness depending on the years. 1901 and 1933 501s used 10oz denim

I have understood for vintage, I talk about red tab line. Yes, in some Auchan or Carrefour at around 50 euros instead of 80 euros in departement stores. But they looks less thick, less strong.

Well for standard red tab, I buy them in the States, but I haven't bought any in years since the Vintage line came out.

The vintage redline jeans are the only Levis i buy. The fabric is a better quality as is the color. The indigo seems deeper and ages better as it fades, colorwise. also, since i wear them with 1.5" turnups, the redline stitching is aesthetically nicer they are hard to get, even the repros. i have 201xx redline buckleback repros that are near impossible to buy anymore
