In a time where Vacheron Constantin is a relic and Patek Philippe is
old fashioned. Meet the new king, Audemars Piguet.

Here is my favorite model:

I have never been particularly impressed with AP but they do make purty looking movements. I'd say F.P. Journe is the new king.

I really like the original, thin steel 70's RO with the raw finish on the bracelet. Of course, the classic haute horologie items are absolute beauties but the RO, as one of the original luxury sports watches, has a very special place in my heart (among the other Genta creations from the same period). Until I'm stinking rich I comfort myself with this $8 70s piece;

I too, love the smaller size RO. My only complaint with AP is too many "limited editions" that are anything but. Pick any F1 team, sailing team, etc. and there is a "LE" -- ridiculous prices too.

I can't say I care much for AP, and I would hardly call Vacheron or Patek a "relic" or "old fashioned." Those are two of the best.

Lange will always be king for me though. I love their stuff.

Vacheron Constantin was great two generations ago, now it's in decay. Patek Philippe is the king now and it's beginning to look old fashioned. So Audemars Piguet may be the next ruler of watch world. Of course those three are among the best and probably always will be.

I love Lange as well, it's probably my favorite.

How exactly is VC decaying? Take a look at either their stunning new Patrimony Retorgrade Day/Date or their Openworked Minute Repeaters or Perp. Calendars. And given Patek's prices, and the customers the company caters to, it makes sense for them to be "old fashioned" (i.e. conservative).

Sorry Miguel, but your line of reasoning doesn't work for me. You seem to be equating big fat watches and oddly shaped cases with innovation.

The VC won Watch of the Year in 2007

The thing with AP, is that I am going to guess, to many they are first a luxury sports watch brand. Yes, the Millenary that I posted above is a great looking watch; but, it isn't something that many will crave like a RO or ROO.

I love that watch and desperately want to buy one.

I just wish the case size was a little smaller (around 40mm and it would be perfect).

The Richard Lange in rose gold is higher on my wish-list though.

If you observe their websites, you'll notice AP is more contemporary. Followed by PP and last VC. I'm not equating big fat watches with "innovation", I'm saying AP is more contemporary. If you want innovation a F.P. Journe is a better option.

FPJ has a great design; but, innovation in the techincal sense? That would be Ulysse Nardin.
