Podcasts

Thread Starter
I thought I'd make a thread about podcasts for the new year, as one pops up every three months only to disappear after eight or nine posts. My list has considerably dwindled (nixed Left, Right & Center, NPR News Update, All Songs Considered and more) while I did add one new iTunes subscription. I'm now listening to:

Radio Lab (this is one of my favorite things in the world)
A Prairie Home Companion
This American Life

Those have stayed in the rotation while I've added our very own The Sound of Young America. It's pretty great and I'm not sure why I waited so long to give it a chance. Love the interviews with people I...love, like Tony Millionaire and George Saunders. Jesse has an awesome understanding of the medium for someone so young. One of Apple's "Podcasts of the Year", I've been shilling for it like crazy. Download it. /

I've just discovered Podcasts and have downloaded some All Songs Considered and Stephen Fry.

I'm a huge fan of Stephen Fry and I expect these to be very entertaining.

I used to subscribe to the NY times podcasts. But, I ended that after a week when I realized I couldn't stand that guys voice.

I love listening to prairie home companion. I don't podcast it but i listen to it off their site whenever i can. My 2 friends and i usually listen to it while playing video games. Great stuff. I've never actually gotten into podcasts yet. I may in the future but i'm too lazy to research good ones for me yet.

-NPR: Story of the Day
-NPR: Business story of the day
-NPR: Driveway moments
-NPR Your Health
-60 second science
-Mr. Mannors
-Mrs. Money, money tips
-Sound of Young America

If you subscribe to any NPR content, get Driveway moments. One of my favorite segments was about a dog that got addicted to those frogs that would secrete hallucinogens from their skin. She would swallow them whole, get high, then vomit them back up. Once the family knew what was going on and kept her inside she had withdrawl symptoms and did nothing more than watch the pond from the window all day.

Haha...I remember that story. That's one hippie dog if there was ever one.

The New Yorker's various podcasts, The Monocle's, Black Business, and one or two more I can not remember right now.

jon, your shilling is much appreciated. running an indy media operation, I'll take all the shilling I can get. Lately, I am obsessed with You Look Nice Today: A Journal of Emotional Hygiene. It's a very deadpan guys-discuss-random-stuff show, but it often veers into delightful flights of fancy. Difficult to describe, easy to enjoy.

I usually stick with espn podcasts to get my sports news while working - I should probably educate myself a bit better and listen to more NPR.

My friends used to work on a Mac podcast, but they left and one of them started his own that I enjoy called Mac OSKen, and I'm not even a big Mac user.

My other friend that left is friends with the guys who run a wine podcast called Grape Radio.
