alterations in central NJ

I recently got a good deal on a jacket through eBay, and it fits me great except for the sleeves, which are an inch or so too long. The problem is that the buttonholes have already been opened, so I'd need to get them shortened from the shoulder, which is something that my local alterations place doesn't want to touch. Can anybody recommend a place in the central NJ area who would be willing to do this job and who could do it competently? I'm also open to going to NYC if it's that big a deal, though I'd only consider places that aren't too far off from Penn Station or the subway line (never been to NYC before, let alone on my own) and that I could contact in advance to find out whether they'd do it.

Let me guess. Are you a Texas native? NYC is an extremely safe city, very pedestrian friendly. Almost everything is within walking distance to subway, there's nothing to worry about. To answer your question. I have used Wilfred and Bhambi. Wilfred's price is very reasonable and they did a decent job on all my alternations. I know they can shorten sleeves from shoulder but I've never tried it. They're on 23rd St. between 5th & 6th Ave. Ph# 212.242.3030. Bhambi's more expensive they did an exceptional job, all their working button holes are hand-sewn. They sure can shorten sleeves from shoulder but I haven't tried it. Concierges from top hotels in the area, such as Four Seasons, recommend Bhambi to their customers. They're on 60th St. between 5th & Madison Ave., right across from Barneys, next to Borrelli, around the corner from Domenico Vacca (Attolini) and Bergdorf is 2 blocks down on 5th. Ph# 212.935.5379 Also, someone highly recommended Peppino 780 Lexington Ave. 212.832.3844 and Alexis 242 E 77th St. 212.717-9412 but I've never used them.
