need me a jacket/coat

Hey you guys are always helpful so i'll shoot another question.. I am in need of some type of jacket/sport coat for work. I never wear a suit to work, most of the time, grey slacks and a nice shirt with tie. I was looking at this one at Banana Republic but I know there stuff isn't really great, but I like the design. Unfortunately, I am only about 5'4, 14 1/2 - 15 size shirts..28 waist so i'm not too big. I tried some of the stuff on at BR just for the hell of it (size S of course) the sleeves fit but all the jackets there are too long. Almost the same at alot of other places I went (polo..etc etc ) Either that, or I would love a particular jacket and they smallest size they had would be a 36S. Im beginning to think I need my own tailor 36S fits but just a tad bit long. I got a short torso with long legs..So what should I be looking at? I guess what i'm looking for is a pea coat or some stylish coat like that but in a slimmer cut.

I don't really understand your question. You mention a pea coat, but then you say you are looking for a jacket/sport coat. Which is it? You can't wear a pea coat as a blue blazer, if that's what you're thinking. A 36S will be fine if the body is the right length. The sleeves could be easiliy shortened by a competent tailor. If you are just looking for some outerwear, then I'd recommend you live with the sleeves being a tad long -- it's not like you will be wearing the pea coat around the office.

Sorry if it was confusing. I'm still bouncing the idea of a pea coat or just a normal jacket around. Any suggestions would be appreciated. This jacket won't be around the office your right, just after and before. As for the 36S, the sleeves are a good length, but the jacket length is a bit too long, if I took an inch off of it, it'd be fine.

It sounds like you want some sort of outerwear piece. If that is the case, I'm sort of at a loss, because I rarely see non-blazers that are "unbulky" enough and stylish enough to wear as an over piece (in other words, something you wouldn't take off at a bar). If I ever found such a piece, I would buy it immediately.

I am confused a little too, but if it's between a sport coat and a peacoat, make it the sport coat... I think peacoats are a tad feminine.. if you want a double-breasted coat, get a full-length instead.

Peacoat is fem? What the hell...?   Maybe stores are "re-inventing" the piece or something? Has to be one of the most classic pieces of clothing around. I'd suggest a basic blue blazer or grey or brown herringbone tweed coat. Brooks should have your size.  And those three options will go with almost anything, though you might be pushing slightly.  If you have to, you can always go to the boys department.   Getting a blazer or tweed coat and you're set.  It can work as outwear in all but the coldest climes. I think one of your questions is whether it's possible to take an inch of a 36S without throwing off the balance of the coat? I don't know the answer to that.
