in case you haven't heard: http://www.proposition317.com

this is a real proposition to make st. patrick's day a national holiday, with the day off work.

Does anybody actually like St. Patrick's Day? Standing in an overcrowded Irish pub drinking overpriced drinks with a bunch of drunks is not my idea of fun.

I would be in favor of making the first Thursday and Friday of March Madness federal holidays, however.

Why the hell would the irish deserve a US national holiday?

Welll.... if American Christians deserve one, don't Irish Americans?

I was being facetious. I agree with you that it is ridiculous. One on hand, I enjoy my paid days off as much as the next guy. On the other hand, when does it stop?

This is why I don't trust Canadians. ARE YOU SERIOUSLY ARGUING AGAINST A DAY OFF FROM WORK TO DRINK???

This is why I don't care for Labor Day, New Years Eve, Fourt of July, Halloween, Memorial Day, Presidents Day or any other day bars/clubs are over packed and overpriced.

I was at a bar a week ago when the bartender passed the petition to us asking for our signatures. My friends signed, I didn't.

Yes. I think some of the holidays we celebrate are ridiculous. Besides, consider the impact of such a move within the context of the entire US economy. Not only would St. Patricks day be a write-off for many businesses, but there would be some serious lost productivity the next day as well.

I dont get off work for any holidays so it doesn't matter to me

I have never once celebrated St. Patrick's Day.

I would prefer that all employers simply give more vacation time to be used whenever we feel like it. Specifically I'd like my wife's employer to give her more vacation time.

4 weeks/year mandatory paid leave for all employees. Keep your employees healthy and happy so they'll be more productive.

Bad name for a voter initiative. It sounds like something you'd get from Client #9.

There is a lot more lost productivity from having a general lack of time off.

US workers get less holidays, less vacation, less sick time, and less benefits than any first world country - yet we are still falling behind in nearly every category.

Maybe giving people a bit more time off to spend with friends and families would result in people working harder when they are actually at work.
