Was talking to the barkeep at the Gibson last night, and he made me a Negroni with Gran Classico. Very interesting. Much softer and milder, and with that refreshing minty/menthol note (but not too much, like Fernet, which I do not enjoy). I didn't realize that it was the Tempus Fugit folks who make Gran Classico that made that Violette. That's neat.  If you've not had their Midnight at La Esquina cocktail, my, that was awesome. Like a tequila Negroni, but with Cocchi Americano. Awesome. Later, when I asked for bartender's choice with Ransom Old Tom (which I don't have and have never tasted), they made me a PDT cocktail they've tweaked, the De La Louisiane, with the Old Tom in place of rye. Excellent.

That's the one with Benedictine and sweet vermouth? If so, I don't think that's a PDT cocktail. It's just a classic New Orleans cocktail. They have a version at Eleven Madison Park too.

Ran out of gin last night. Was going to pick up my mainstay, Aviation, until I spotted this:

How did you like the gin? I almost always have a couple of bottles of Death's Door gin on hand during the summer, but haven't been able to find it for months now, so I have tried Citadelle (French) and Corsair (American), bit of which are quite good, but just fall short of Death's Door.

My first entry into pisco:

I'm enjoying it so far. Tried out a pisco sour (with egg white) and a pisco sidecar. Also had a few sips neat. Quite good for $18.

I don't know much about pisco, but I think Quebranta (non-aromatic) is the right descriptor.

I prefer the vieux from reunion but ambré is good as well,
It is made the same way Rhum agricole is but it cannot be named in such a way,not being from island in that denomination entails.

My prefered is the distillerie de Vue Belle. The 5 ans the 10 is excellent as well. but the others from the same island for the part are just about equal.
