I just read this thread from the start, not having seen it before, and I'm a bit surprised by many of the comments.

His shows in general I find very entertaining. To me he does what a great travel host/writer should do, and that's let you live the moment through him.

The gritty wit might be a turn off for some, but I like it as he does seem to be a quick person and it's not all scripted.

I don't think he's ever proclaimed himself to be a great chef, just a bloke working the stove who finally figured out he might be better off talking about food than cooking it.

The only challenge there is the high volume. The food is less than mediocre so you don't need a good chef to run that kitchen, just one on steroids who's ready to work hard and scream harder
