Acronym jackets and messenger bags, worth the money?

I have been looking at Acronym stuff recently and I have to say, it is some pretty sweet stuff.

However, when I look at the price tag, I'm thinking.. wow.

I just wanted some feedback from people who own(or have owned) acronym jackets or messenger bags.
Are the jackets really what they are advertised to be? How are they as jackets (I mean, forget the hidden pockets, the slings, and all that jazz). and can they hold out against northface and helly hansen technical jackets?

and what about the messenger bags (3a-1, 3a-3ts, 3a-5ts)? the material is cordura and limota on certain models, but sells for 350+ as opposed to chrome messenger bags, which are advertised as being sturdy (and made of the same material, cordura).

as with many very expensive items, you are paying for uniqueness and design. They will last about as long as any standard 2ply or 3ply goretex or similar bonded synthetic nylon. I believe they have 1 or 2 proprietary goretex fabrics (goretex cashmere? or something like that) but other than that, it's all design. is the design worth it to you?

I bought a Timbuk2 messenger bag and love it. Great selection of colors and very handy on the weekends with room for the wallet, cell, paper and kids' books.

i had to sell my acronym because it was too big. damn euro sizes. anyways, it was definately worth the price. very original. acr is going after a special ops type jacket wish a fashion sense. there's no way a real spec ops guy could use them. but, i like the thought. it took me a week to figure out everything that jacket could do.

yeah, the jackets i admit are cool, but seem way over priced. but for some reason, their marketing makes me want them. as for the messenger bags, id probably go for a chrome messenger bag unless i can find a cheaper deal on an acronym.

Anyways, if anyone here has a 3A-1, do you know if there's a way to configure the strap so that it'll have a three point strap thing going on - i.e. over the shoulder as well as around the body.

A store in my city, Nomad, used to carry Acronym products, so I've seen them in the flesh. They do look nice, very milspec. like kert said, but you can get the same look buying actual military surplus. The bag I saw was not very big and was divided into a lot of small compartments – not very practical. It also cost about $400. I returned to Nomad a while ago to browse, and was told by the salesperson that they were no longer stocking Acronym because it was "too expensive and wasn't selling." Any way you slice it, $1,100+ for a Gore-Tex shell jacket is ludicrous. You're still left needing a liner or a fleece. Where Acronym really falls down is that they're supposed to be this utilitarian brand, but they're so expensive that no one in their right mind would ever want to use their products for what they were ostensibly designed for. For a similar aesthetic and about half the price, you could get an Arc'teryx Gore-Tex Alpha SV jacket. I own an Arcteryx myself, I love it, in fact I would argue that it is an equal or better product than Acronym's.
