I find myself in the unenviable position of needing to shave with an electric razor for the next few months. Beard is medium heavy; hair slightly curly. Any recommendations or must-avoids?

braun pulsonic is the best if you're going that route. it's about as good as it gets for an electric.

i recommend a mid priced braun (around $75). the more expensive models won't shave you any closer and often have the same cutting block. some of the panasonics have good reviews but i don't have experience with them. stay away from the rotary shavers a la norelco. and forza inter!

Braun and Panasonic are good choices. Avoid the rotary shavers- take too long to shave with them and they are a real pain around the sideburns.

I recently got a panasonic that I've been pretty happy with. Much closer than any norelco.

yeah don't get a rotary is all i can say. i made the stupid mistake of dropping decent money on a rotary that i NEVER use because it's horrendous and takes way too long.

Philips/Norelco Aritec is very good.

The older models (81xx) and below are pretty bad, I have one. It does a passable job but produces some irritation.

There's a new type of shaver from Hitachi I've been thinking of picking up. The outside looks like a Braun-like foil design, but the blade inside is actually like a cylinder that spins around, with the blades on a slight diagonal, it looks similar to an old-fashioned lawnmower. The idea is that the blades cut at an angle like chopping lettuce or how a guillotine works.
