My Password Was Changed

Thread Starter
I just received two e-mails from the Style Forum. The first told me that I had requested my log-in details (which I hadn't done.) The second e-mail informed me that my password had been successfully changed. I tried to log on (using my regular password), and got a password incorrect error. Then I used the new password that I was sent in my e-mail, and it worked. Is somebody trying to hack into my account? Why would anyone want to do this? Has this happened to anyone else? If folks notice some unusual activity from my account (like an essay praising the sartorial excellence of salmon-colored Nehru jackets) it may be due to a hacker.

Dunno, but is Kai2 you or another? Pretty pathetic hacking a bulletin board account... JJF

My best assumption would be that someone might have desired the name Kai, and when it was taken, asked for their login details to assure themself that they hadn't already registered this name (happens to me all the time, I go to a forum and see that my desired name is taken and assume that I already registered and just forgot the password). Then, when the password that they use for all their other internet accounts didn't work, they figured they might have registered it wrongly and had it sent to their email, and upon opening their email inbox and not having received their new PW, gave up and made the username Kai2.

Yeah, this was confusing me as well. Kai, and Kai2, would the real Kai please stand up? Now that I look at it again, it appears that Kai2 is a different person. Kai, as long as you can post, I wouldn't worry about it. I sent through the password change request only because I saw a person called Kai2 posting and mistakenly thought it was you (like CTCan'tpostguy before). Sorry about that. From now on I will only approve PW change requests if someone emails me about it. email as always is j@styleforum.net.

Kai: That accidently was me. I just joined (been following for months), chose Kai--forgot you already had that username--but it didn't give me an error message, but rather bad password message. I thought I screwed up, etc etc. Got a message from the big guy controlling things, told him what happened, should be changed back. Mia Culpa.
