archival clothing rucksacks - built to last, in the USA, by a small shop.
I've had Archival Clothing's Rucksack for a couple of weeks and it's even better than I thought it would be - clean shape, thoughtful design, very comfortable and, yes, it gets me to and from work in style. One thing that annoys me about backpacks is their propensity to fall away from your back. The Archival Clothing Rucksack hugs close - fits really well. They discuss how their design accomplished this in the link MichaelPemulis posted (above), and in this blog entry, where they discuss design problems they were trying to avoid:

I was a little apprehensive about switching from a more traditional over the shoulder computer-type carry bag so I opted for the all black verson. But, having used the bag for a while, I think any of the other colors (olive, gray, tan) could work for a work bag. And it's made in Springfield, Oregon, USA.

If you are interested in this bag but aren't 100% sure, you might contact them to see if a retailer in your area carries them (I know a couple of stores in Portland, OR & NYC carry them - not sure about other locales).
