I've had Archival Clothing's Rucksack for a couple of weeks and it's even better than I thought it would be - clean shape, thoughtful design, very comfortable and, yes, it gets me to and from work in style. One thing that annoys me about backpacks is their propensity to fall away from your back. The Archival Clothing Rucksack hugs close - fits really well. I was a little apprehensive about switching from a more traditional over the shoulder computer-type carry bag so I opted for the all black verson. But, having used the bag for a while, I think any of the other colors (olive, gray, tan) could work for a work bag. And it's made in Springfield, Oregon, USA.

Buying it from South Willard/Altadena will still be the cheapest way, even with shipping.

If you like the mountaineering style, you can look at Rivendell Mountain Works, great packs made by a wizard in the Northwestern mountains. Look for the Lupine model, much cheaper than the Altadena and extremely well made.
