Hard Liquor and waking up too early... - Page 2

Thanks for the info guys! Kind of a bummer though, as I don't drink regularly, but when I do have the occasional drink too soon before bed it happens. Guess I'll have to town down the drinking for awhile.

Not every night too, just when I've had a particularly shitty or long day. Sometimes it's just one drink. I guess I was trying to say, two is my limit on weeknights.

Still, 12oz of even 80 proof whiskey is a fair bit in one night (weeknight anyway ). Remind me not to get into a drinking contest with you.

OP, maybe just taper off earlier, or switch to something lighter near the end of the night? I'd imagine higher proof drinks are more of a shock to your system having all of it delivered more quickly. Or find something else to help unwind.

If I ever get up to Seattle again, let's do Korean BBQ or shabu shabu. Whoever drinks the most gets treated on the bill

Ever since I started drinking I've had this problem. I'm 23 now and have quit drinking altogether for the most part. Without fail, if I drink, I wake up at 7AM or shortly thereafter.

you learn to be drunk, and that masks how much more drunk you are. the young white man's body can slay alcohol out of the system at a really quick rate. if you are moving into middle age, and if you've been drinking heavily since your teens, you are probably very suave at downing large quantities. but the same amount of liquor is twice as hard as your body, because it takes that much longer (roughly) for the body to expel this "poison."

long story short, if you are starting to have trouble with your sleep and you suspect it's the booze, i bet it is the booze. you drink too much. slow down, soldier.

if i were you, i would quit drinking completely for about two months and then start over with small portions

good luck with that

Is there really that much of a genetic/racial component to this? Not challenging you, it's just something I'd be interested in hearing/learning about. The little differences we all have is pretty interesting to me.

There is a huge racial component. Not the part about diminishing production as people age, that's just the curse of aging on all of us, but he probably picked white men because there are several gene pools or northern European types that produce huge amounts of this enzyme. North American Indians and many gene pools of Asians produce little to no of this enzyme. This is why drinking has been, and still is, a problem to so many Native populations. They get drunk fast and stay drunk for a very long time as their body simply cannot breakdown the alcohol molecule too well. It is basically the same idea as lactose intolerance, as there is a definite genetic/racial component to that, with several large gene pools that fail to manufacture lactase.
