I've read so many good things about this. Does anyone take this on a daily basis? If you do, is it for specific reasons or general health? I'm Indian so it is already in many of our prepared meals but is that enough? What are the different ways to consume it?

Yes.

Supposed to be good for the immune system, but I've never taken it. I'm sure it's not needed.

I take a lot daily and have for a long time. It is an anti-inflammatory, and is excellent for the liver. I believe I have benefited from it greatly over the years -- last blood work showed optimal liver function.

How do you take it?

The circumin (yellowing agent) in tumeric has anti-inflammatory abilities which enabled my leg to return to normal after a year of swelling from psoriatic arthritis.

It also:

promotes blood flow and circulation in general
has powerful anti cancer activity
relaxes blood vessels, lowers blood pressure
fights cell damaging free radicals better than vit E
increases enzymes that digest sugar and fat

there are even more benefits, I have taken it in capsule form.

The funny thing is that I had been told in 1994 by "The Wandering Taoist", (who as legend has it lived in India and China and is a "barefoot doctor" of sorts as well as a grandmaster level martial artist) that tumeric causes stomach cancer. I repeated this to my God mother who's Guyanese, w/ a Harvard Doctorate in Education and who knows herbs, she scoffed. My subsequent research unearthed great info about this essential herb. I've taken it in tablet and capsule form.

I considered taking tumeric capsules because they supposedly enhance absorption of my favorite supplement, chlorella vulgaris. But, I just don't like taking so many pills. Popping probiotics, zinc, and cal/mag are enough pills for me!

I do love soaking 2 or 3 cardamom pods in my drinking water and tea though.

Quirkette used to buy it fresh and juice it along with apples, carrots, celery, beets, etc.. She used to suffer from rheumatoid arthritis flareups and the turmeric's anti-inflammatory properties helped to relieve it quite a bit.

It's in curry. Try Indian food.

The amount of turmeric in Indian food should be enough for the body.

swansonvitamins.com has a sale on Turmeric. $3.99 for 240 720mg capsules, limit 3 per order. I went ahead and added to to my normal soy lecithin replacement order. I'll report back on if I feel anything differently after taking it. BTW, its 240 caps but the daily dose is 4-6 capsules per day.

I'd highly recommend New Chapters version available at Whole Foods, etc.

I would guess that Indian food would have more than enough turmeric.

My father currently has 'fatty liver' and I'm worried . I'd like to help him as much as possible, will turmeric help for that? If not, do you guys have any other ideas? Thank you EDIT: I just found this website http://hilmikhouzam.blog.com/2480344/ and it says Omega-3, Southern Ginseng (is it different than normal Ginseng?), and Milk Thistle (Silymarin) all help. Does anyone know if Milk Thistle (Silymarin) can be bought in pill form at the local drugstore? How do you take it? Thanks
