Any Quick Help for Laryngitis?

I started to feel a cold/flu/whatever coming on yesterday, but decided the best way to fight it would be to go out last night & drink too much in a smoky bar. Good times, but I woke up today and literally cannot speak. I mean, sometimes I've had a cold and my voice would get all husky, but at the moment I can't make a sound.

Naturally I have a big conference call tomorrow morning, so I need to get my voice back. I've been poking around the net & it seems hot drinks & gargling with salt water are typical recommendations. I've been trying these without any result just yet. Any other ideas?

Buy eucalyptus or menthol drops or leafs put them in a hot water cover your head with towel and breathe warm herbal vapors.
Eating honey helps as well.
Gargling helps to fight an onset of upper respiratory infection even if done with strong mouthwash (28% Alc)

Dkzzzzzzzzzz's recommendations are good. Also, what we would often do back home is pick wild sage or thyme, boil it and drink the resulting tea with some honey. It does soothe the pain for a while. Contrary to what many people do, I avoid lemon, the acid does not seem to help with the pain (on the contrary, probably exacerbates it IMHO).

Don't talk, cough or whisper. It is hard, but you must rest your vocal chords/throat. Do not take any meds that dry up your sinuses, nose or cough. They can contribute to it.

Gargle and drink lots of liquids.

Good luck!

Good points imo. Just rest as much as possible.

Thanks, guys, especially for the recs about lemon and the sinus meds. I've got sage and thyme growing on my balcony, so I'll try that tea, skalogre. Dkzzz, when you say 'eat honey', do you mean just...plain? Like, down it by the spoonful?
