In search of Chelseas

In a 11.5-12D. This is in some measure a WTB thread but also a query: where do you people find these things for more or less reasonable prices? Say under 200 dollars, new or used. Ebay has not been helping me, a pair of Guccis just went from 80 to 142 to 260 in the last minute... 300~ is the sort of price I'd expect to pay for C&J or maybe RM Williams on ebay, not used Guccis. So what's the secret, or are you all just paying large sums for your boots? I'm not picky, they're to be worn regularly, mostly with Jeans, but I am partial to the notion of a darker brown.

Also, Tauntons appear to be available for cheap, though not in my size so far. Worth a purchase at, say, 150?

I dunno, I find I end up wearing my Zara chelseas more than any of my other ones. I own Paul Smith, Costume National, CdG, RM Williams, and quite a few other ones. The Zara chelseas are < $150 at retail and seem to be really well made. I've worn my pairs maybe 30-50 times each and they are in great shape still. They also take polish nicely.

This is normal - especially if you use snipe software.

Sure, as long as the last fits you.

I do not, but I know it's normal, it just seems to be a lot harder to find good boots than any other kind of shoe.
By the way, at least I have the integrity to do my sniping manually

Keep an eye on Yoox. I've gotten a couple of pairs of chelseas there, and both for a song. In fact, of all my shoes, my favorite might be a pair of dark brown suede chelseas I bought from Yoox for $30 or so.

^Nothing even remotely close to that cheap on there currently. How does Yoox work?

It's like STP, only more prone to major sales. If stuff doesn't move, it often gets marked down until it does, sometimes to absurdly low prices.

Check this thread:

If you do a search, you'll see some of the previous SF frenzies during the big Yoox sales.

Patience and the search buttons. I also wear size 11.5-12D and they are not always easy to find. But the deals will come around sooner or later. I have the RM Willams boots in both black and brown. I got them new for less than $190 each . One pair from STP and the other pair from Orvis. I found out about both deals on this forum. Just be patience and you can find almost any shoe for less than 50% retail. I usually try to hold out for at least a 60-75% saving. But I'm buying because I would like to have and not out of need.

Bumping this because though I was offered something via PM and accepted, the offeror appears to have dropped off the face of the internet and I'm back in the market.
