I would wear red socks with every outfit - make it my signature look, like Tom Wolfe's white suits. Bradford
Bradford, That sounds great. I think that you should try it for two weeks. Then decide if you want to keep it up. I wish that I had a "signature" look. -Tom

10-gallon hat, manhole cover belt buckle, "roach killer" alligator cowboy boots.

A fez. Why? Damned if I know. I don't even know where to buy one.

I don't know why... but I did attempt to wear something like this about 4 years ago to my senior prom... yeahhh... I didn't know a thing about clothes back then... so... notch evening tail-coat and pre-tied bow-tie aside, I think I did pretty well for a high school senior. Besides, what other 18 year old sports a beaver fur top hat and Knight of the Garter sash to his prom?

Maybe the *super* hip have caught onto this. Or maybe the Shriners had a membership drive? Very wierd.

Tennis/cricket whites.... think I'd have to go with Tom Wolf on this one. At least for half the year. Otherwise I'd love to do the head to toe bespoke thing. Perfect compliment for the XK 150 or Silver Ghost. Outside of that.... a pencil thin mustache. But I look horrible. Yup, I've tried.

Ha ha, sure. Travel there often?

Not that today has been a day of oddities, but that is the oddest thing I've learned today. That and a fez costs over US$200.

Clothes from other cultures can be cool. I've always thought modern 'suits' from eastern Africa are cool. A quilt with a tuxedo jacket can look smart--I can just hear the gasps at that now... I actually bought a traditional Chinese linen suit when I last was in China. I attempted to wear it (with my Shanghai-Tang shirt), but didn't make it out of my bedroom. I couldn't carry it off well. I just turned the suit into Goodwill. It's probably still there if anyone wants to try it.

I had a friend who bought a leather frock coat after a drunken lunch in Rome, and looked very good in it. I actually used to wear Tyrolean jackets every day, and liked them a lot, despite the continuing objections of the women in my life. One of my girlfriends even made me a jacket to my design, so that I would stop wearing the Tyrolean. I never made it as far as lederhosen, though. I have a real hankering for a bowler hat, although I think I could only wear it in London.

Wear the fez with a pinstriped double-breasted suit, and classic Persol sunglasses such as the ones Marcello Mastroianni wore in Fellini's "8 1/2." It's Constantinople circa 1964. Quite chic.

I have a cool cape that once belonged to General Pershing. It's nice, but I have had no occasion to ever wear it.

Ah yes, the King Farouk look. Reminds me of the beginning of Diamonds are Forever ("Hit me."). I suppose if I could get away with it, I'd wear a shit-eating, dog-with-two-dicks grin like President George W. Bush since Wednesday morning... But surely Marcello wore the Persols in La Dolce Vita rather than 8 1/2, no? <EDIT: my bad, forgot about fez, it's been a while since I saw 8 1/2>
