Modernist Architecture - Like?

I am into modernism, but not the actute form of rectangular boxes. I prefer some round edges and earthen tones to balance out the industrial look.

If I were to acquire a moderist house, it would have the attributes similar to Campbell Cliffs.

I much prefer the more "curvy" modernist architecture such as that shown in my avatar; in my opinion it is very hard to pull off a more boxy design and make it look something other than cold and unwelcoming.

FWIW, the two most impressive buildings I've seen in my life have been FL Wright's Fallingwater and Frank Gehry's Guggenheim Bilbao. Both very modern.

I actually prefer boxy modernist structures; I can't get into a lot of the current "blob" architecture or the curvy stuff that Gehry and others are doing.

My own house is not necessarily boxy, but it is definitely hard-edged and very geometric in design.

it seems like post-prairie home Wright would be right up your alley.

Yes; one of my favorites is Edward Durrell Stone.

I love modernist architecture. I usually prefer mid-century to the more contemporary styles, but most of all, I like to see something that had some thought put into it. For example, modernist is my preferred style, but my fiancee isn't crazy about it, so I've been looking at some Deco and Craftsman style homes lately as a bit of middle ground. Traditional enough for her, but with a sense of design and with enough unique touches to appease me.

I do have to say, though, I'd probably give a kidney for Case Study 22.

new photos from my fav. Bart Prince. I especially love his treatment of interiors.

Here's Durrell Stone's house, which was a traditional edifice that he erected a grille over.It proved quite controversial.

I would never have guessed that the first photo was a Prince design. That may be his best-looking house that I have seen.

+1. I also prefer white and color to anything beige, gray or taupe. The latter seems like traditional Interior Desecration dressed up to look cool and modern.

The other works of Gehry's I've seen pale in comparison to his Bilbao Guggenheim. LK, I like that Durrell Stone house, but only as one among many. In other words, I wouldn't want most houses to look like that, but it's nice. I'm a fan of some curved things, such as by Tadao Ando and Santiago Calatrava, or Gaudi.

I actually think he's incredibly versatile. It definitely looks different than his more famous stuff, like Price, Gradow/Benton, and of course, his own home and studio, and will probably stand as one of his better designs, but I mostly like him because I used to live right down the street from him in Albuquerque. I used to sit there and stare at his UFO shaped house when I was 11.
