Had my fitting with Lucian Maftei last month. He has made a few changes to the last, mailny lengthening it by 4 mm and shortening the lacing area by about the same, making the proportions a bit nicer:

Yes he does. I switched to English when we started discussing shoe details. Maybe I mentioned in an earlier post, but Lucian Maftei is really a pleasure to deal with and very patient. Very much a gentleman.

I will post the end product upon receipt, probably later this month. Should be another 2 weeks or so.

Btw, I ordered 3 piece shoe trees, which IIRC are an extra EUR 50 or 60. Standard wooden shoe trees are included in the price, which for fully hand sewn shoes is EUR 890 (and for wood pegged EUR 690). The last was another EUR 100.

I had shoes made by Maftei but by Lucian's father who is also pleasure to deal with. I had a wood pegged shoes made I did not know about handsewn option. Anyways for my next order I would like to go litlle bit in details and as I mentioned I am more comfortable discussing details in english so it is good to know that Lucain speaks english.

You info is very helpful keep us posted.

If I understood him correctly his father concentrates on the more traditional models and mainly does wood pegging, whereas Lucian himself likes to do more elegant shoes and prefers hand sewn. Although he can surely also make the more traditional models.

interesting, due to the fact that the construction has nothing to do with the shape or execution of a certain model.

btw, the upcharge for the handsewn is called "idiot tax"...

Hey Fritz, maybe you have misread, but I didn't say that there is a connection between elegant shoes and hand sewn / goodyear construction vs wood pegged construction.

I only mentioned that Maftei jr not only makes traditional models but also more elegant shoes. And that he told me he prefers hand sewn over wood pegged because the latter is more stiff (his words).

Moreover, the burgundy half brogue you see pictured in my prova pictures have wood pegged construction. And those are elegant shoes.

He may have made the whole story up thinking he could squeeze another EUR 200 out of an idiiot like me, although he didn't strike me as a moneygrubber.However, that may be a part of a very clever cover up also.

long story short: back in the days one wasn't charged for the last or the construction method, iirc not even for e.g. stingray(you can call it beta phase). only upcharge i'm aware of was for cordovan, which was â‚¬ 50,- or so.

the rest is history...
