far left is pretty english and something i would wear to the annual christopher street day parade.

middle is decent, but lacks of personality, imo

last but not least, this is really tricky and i voter for english, the nuances are hard to detect, though

I posted the picture for the middle one only since we were talking about monks, . I disagree, I like the shape and the dark grain and would be happy with those, I don't want much more than that in monks, I think the shoes that I hated the most in my life are the C&J Savile (snouty, made me feel like a pilgrim and creased horribly), my only monk shoe is the Peal for BB in the 240 last, nice and rounded similar to that one, maybe a little narrower.

ah, ok. imo, the shape of a monk is harder to please due to the prominence of the buckle.

beside the killer pair, i find almond shaped lasts very accommodating for thi species.

who makes a better car? audi, bmw, mercedes?

imo, there's no real answer to these questions. there are several members who tried the more popular makers and iirc all of them enjoyed the experience. i dunno, if all went the wood pegged route, though.

out of my head:

banis - has some shoes by maftei. he still buys alden's. go figure.
bengal - has worked with materna and afaik he visited maftei, balint, petkov & kudweis.
concordia - has at least two pairs by balint
the.chikor - maftei
cornellian - a guy from boston is a die hard balint fan
binge - karl weiner
sator - i forgot whom he has chosen

grammaton cleric will be in vienna in may and he is planning to visit some artisans: http://www.styleforum.net/t/294889/is-europe-secretly-booming-report-from-vienna

these makers all have in common, that they do not travel. maftei does trunk shows in germany on a regular basis and afaik on request.
