Was in one of their stores the other day, their fabrics seem very good but was disappointed in construction of some fo their suits, are they known more as a fabric mill than clothing maker? I have seen some products form other brands made with Loro Piana fabrics and the fabrics are always very good, very impressive.

Great fabrics, but construction is a bit variable. I love their jackets and sweaters but their polo shirts and casual shirts are just average.

In my experience, the fabrics are very good. I have their horsey jacket, and it is very well made. I have a few sweaters and they are good too, although I seem to like Cucinelli better. I can never get LP shirts to fit properly, they are either too short in the sleeve or way too large in in the neck. I did buy a t-shirt, a very expensive t-shirt and it feels amazing.

Wool and cashmere are what they are known for and what they are best at. I'd leave the non-wool stuff to other brands.

Their cashmere and outwear is terrific, although pricey. Horsey coat is versatile (quilted vest + shell) and their Storm System cashmere really does protect from wind, snow and rain while retaining the cashmere look and feel. I also like their "jeans" made from cotton/linen blend. They just happen to fit me well. I just wish the prices were more reasonable - the Horsey coat has gone from $1000 to $1700 in the four years I've had mine. Storm System can run North of $4000.

I had a suit made from a summer weight LP wool. Drapes fantastically, although - the cut is such that if i gain or loose > 5 lbs, the suit brings it out. But if I'm in the right range, then the suit looks fantastic. Definitely some nice material.

Jep I have a cotton linen blend 'jeans' from LP and like you said, its a good fit for me. And amazingly comfortable in the summer.

Sometimes I see jackets at an amazing discount that use Loro Piana fabric, offcourse with mediocre construction, but the fabric is so good that If it fits me well I buy it anyway.

The LP branded jackets and clothing are much more difficult to obtain on sale. But given the fact that many other brands use their fabric I dont give a **** about the LP brand.

I think most of their stuff is very good but overpriced. But they still have a monopoly on Vicuna - so I guess there is no way around them.

They are a bit like Kiton. That is to say that they are pretty good, but there are generally much better options.

I agree with this statment except in terms of their outerwear, which I think is the best on the market.

What other options do you recommend? I have two of their Roadster jackets in cotton and storm system cashmere. They fit me like a bespoke jacket. I agree that the prices can be steep but I haven't found any other outerwear that compares to LPs jackets.

Hard to beat the LP storm system jacket for sheer luxury. The cashmere storm system retains the soft hand of cashmere and provides wind/water protection; that's sheer genius. Granted they license this technology/fabric to other manufactures.

I have an Icer jacket and am most impressed with the extra add-on luxury touches that Loro Piana does. Like a little mink collar lining.

I love their sweaters and jackets. Their pants do not fit me well because I wear a 30 waste and their cut is very wide on the buttox area so they fit very weird on me and dont look so good. This always seems to amaze me since they are an Italian company but carry more of an American fit when it comes to pants. I also think they make great sports coats. When it comes to shirts I have learned that for the money they charge you can get a much higher quality shirt, however I still love all of mine especially the linens.

LP is definitely a fabric maker first, and a clothing line second. My understanding is that they don't make clothes at all but have leveraged their (very strong) brand name by outsourcing production to various Italian makers.

The overcoatings -- especially the cashmeres and luxury fibers -- are among the very best on the market. I love their linen-cotton shirtings. People say wonderful things about their cashmere jacketings too.

The worsteds and other suitings are, in my opinion, seriously inferior to English-made goods.
