I'm currently in Italy and even if the quality of the postal system is low I've always received every item bought on eBay, just use USPS insured+tracking code for added peace of mind

When I lived in Italy the care packages of Cheeze-Its and Swedish Fish that my mother would send me made it in a timely matter.

I did get a BIN offer from Indonesia which I denied.

For what it is worth, I have sent probably 5-7 packages to Indonesia with no problems...

India is a no-go. Have lived there for a quite a while, and have VERY bad experience with their customs and postal service in general.

Packages will get "lost" for 100% sure, especially when from a western country, it doesn't matter whether you register them or not. I still recall one particular situation in which my German flatmate received his package containing sausages and cheese, but after opening (the package was already opened by customs at that time), he noticed somebody took a bite from every item in the parcel..

Your only option will be courier service, like DHL. Although I don't have experience w/ them. I always had relatives, co-workers take along stuff from back home with them.

I've shipped to ebay customers in Korea, China, Japan, Canada and all over Europe with no problems at all. I use USPS Priority International which comes with some insurance by default ($60 I think) but no tracking is available that I know of. 6-10 business days is about average.

I've shipped stuff to South Korea and stuff has been fine.

You're probably equally likely to get scammed by any "developed" country as you are in South Korea. They sure do love their designer clothes there...

That is probably very true.

Back when I took an expat job in China during 02-04, credit cards issued by Chinese banks did not offer any dispute services...hence effectively elimiated any potential scammers trying the charge back route.

Thats amazing.

Your flatmate should get his friend to ship him a new package. This time, get it filled with shit and when customs open and taste it ... ...

I have sent things to India and as long as you insure it haven't had any issues , but it does matter where in India you ship. I have good luck with North India and Delhi.
