Does anyone wear a suit at home these days?

It's funny to look at some of the TV shows from the 50's and 60's -- My Three Sons, Father Knows Best, Leave it to Beaver, etc., etc., where dad wore a suit at home and at the dinner table. I like suits and being well dressed both for work and nights on the town. However, when I get home I change into more comfortable clothes. Part of this comes from cooking -- I love to host dinner parties and cook on a nightly basis (not too many TV dads were ever in the kitchen in the 50's or 60's).

So, does anyone feel comfortable in a suit at home on a daily basis (other than formal entertaining)?

Thanks in advance,
Twotone

little kids and a rottweiler do not go well with suits.

I prefer comfort at home. My home is my castle, my domain. I wear what I please, and what I please ain't no suit.

Agreed - 3 kids and 2 dogs = no suit at home.

I really enjoy being in a suit at work or out on the town. When I get grief from coworkers, etc., I just tell them it's my SuperMan costume. When I put on that suit in the morning I think and act differently...and they should be glad for it!

But, when I walk in the door in the evenings, I have to move quickly to take off the suit for fear of it getting ruined.

Other than in TV shows, did anyone really wear a suit at home in the 50's either?

Only when we are having a dinner party. Even then, it is usually a sportcoat or sweater. I don't necessarily take my suit off right away, but almost always before dinner.

IIRC, my father did. I am sure his father did.

Even Ward Cleaver liked his cardigans and open-collared shirts:

If you're talking abou the dinner table, I do sometimes (I take my jacket off) if we're eating shortly after I get home. I assume that's primarily the context in which those old shows were set -- mom has timed the pot roast and made the kids wash their hands so dinner's ready to go on the table the minute the man gets home from the office. I don't find suits to be uncomfortable, so I'm not desperate to change out of them the very second I get home from work. Often, I'm more interested in getting something to eat. But I'll certainly change if playing in the yard with my daughter and the dog or fixing stuff around the house.

I don't wear a suit when entertaining at home. If we're having friends over for dinner and for some reason are going extra-fancy, I might wear a sportscoat. Even that would unusual, though.

If I am wearing a suit, I rarely change when I get home. I pretty much stay dressed in the same thing all day long unless I am off to a casual activity. I may not even loosen my tie. It just isn't a big deal.

I'll often keep my suit/sportcoat on at home during F/W unless I'm cooking or doing anything that could possibly stain it / cause excessive wrinkling.

Summer is a completely different story though, I throw pretty much everything off as soon as I get home.

I like wearing a suit but it comes off quickly when I get home. For dinner parties at my house, I dress nicely but not in a suit or jacket.

After a 3 hour grooming period each morning, I don my frock coat and button boots and then retire to my library.
