Hi guys,

Just a simple question.
I have been asked to verified my Paypal account with a bank account number (in order to lift the limit). In the past, my purchases through Paypal have gone through my credit card. With the verification, are new purchases going directly through my bank account (i.e. $$ is taken out directly from the account)? Or, will they still show up on my credit card? Thanks.

You have a choice whether to have your purchase debited from your bank account or charged to your credit card. The former is the default. I always switch it to credit card.

They'll try to get you to use your bank account when you're buying stuff (it's significantly cheaper for them), but you can still use your own card.

I recommend setting up an extra bank account to tie to your paypal account though.

Yes, note that the way the paypal payment verification screens come up, the option to pay with a credit card always requires an additional step and isn't always obvious. Read carefully before clicking.

It's just another way for the (paypal) man to keep you down.

Verification is worth doing, as some sellers will only ship to a 'verified address' which, I believe, is established only when doing the verification process.

As the others have indicated, the payment form/format does, indeed, urge use of, and is so-structured as to 'encourage' the use of, your bank account. Probably, a better 'float' picture for them, thereby....

One thing I do is to keep two bank accounts. One main account and one that I keep a smaller amount of $ in for when shopping online. I top it up via online banking whenever it's running low.

This smaller account is the one linked to my Paypal account. Gives me some peace of mind in cause I'm ever the victim of fraudulent activity. I'm careful with my purchases but one never knows...

FYI - Some countries (such as Australia) do not have subscribe to the "verified address" due to new "privacy laws"..

See below from PayPal

Thank you for taking the time to contact us with your concerns. I am happy
to assist you further.

I have read and understood your email that you are unable to confirm your
Location in your PayPal Account. I understand your frustration over this
issue and apologise for the confusion this may have caused you. Please note
that even though you have completed the whole Verification process, the
address may still appear as unconfirmed. The physical letter that was sent
to your Postal Address does not confirm your Location, it would only
Validate your Account Information. A confirmed Address would mean that we
would be using your Credit Card Automated Verification System.
Unfortunately, this feature is not yet available in Australia. PayPal
Australia does not have the facility to confirm shipping address because
Australian credit card companies and financial institutions do not have the
system to verify addresses. The Automated Verification System (AVS) is a
feature we use to have a confirmed address. However, most credit card and
debit card companies do not this facility for PayPal to confirm addresses.
This feature is important to verify your credit card billing address link
to your PayPal account to have a confirmed address. PayPal is still looking
for other alternatives for our customer to have a confirmed address.

If you are making a payment and if it is rejected by the seller because of
the unconfirmed address, you may contact the seller and explain the reason
why you have unconfirmed address. You may also forward this email to seller
as an explanation from PayPal. Once again, we apologise for the
inconvenience.

I understand your frustration regarding this matter and apologize for any
inconvenience it might have caused you.

Sincerely,
XXX

I asked the same question as well as linking Paypal address to ebay not too long ago and here is their reply:

There are 2 ways to link your PayPal account to your eBay account. I
will be glad to show you both these methods and you can pick the one
that you like.

Please follow the steps given below for linking from the PayPal side:
--------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Sign in to your PayPal account.

2. Click on the link/tab for 'Profile' under My Account.

3. Once you are on the profile summary page, please click on the link
for "Auctions" under the column heading 'Selling Preferences'.

4. This will take you to the 'Auction Accounts' page - if you have any
eBay accounts liked, you will see them here.

5. If your eBay account is not already linked OR if you want to link a
new account, please click on the 'Add' button and follow the rest of the
steps.

** Notes:

1. Linking your eBay account to PayPal in this manner will let you
customize the End of Auction email that eBay sends your winning buyer
when your listing closes successfully. This will also automatically add
PayPal as a payment method in your eBay listings.

2. You can only link one PayPal account to your eBay account's shipping
addresses page. However, if you have more than one eBay account, you can
link the same PayPal account to each of your eBay accounts.

OR follow the steps given below for linking from the eBay side:
--------------------------------------------------------------

1. Sign in to your eBay account.

2. Go to your 'Shipping Addresses' page by click on the 'Addresses' link
in the left pane (under 'My Account') and then clicking on the 'View all
shipping addresses' link in the right pane.

3. On your Shipping Addresses page - if your account is not linked to
PayPal, you will see a button at the very top that says "Add PayPal
Addresses>". Click on this button and it will ask for your PayPal email
address and password.

4. Enter your information into that box, and then click on the button
below that says, "Get PayPal Addresses"

5. It will then confirm that your accounts have been link, and you will
see a "Continue" button that will bring you back to your eBay Shipping
Address page.

It is my pleasure to assist you. Thank you for choosing eBay.

Sincerely,

eBay Customer Support

Arggg! I need some help on changing the paypal address.

Here's the story. I have a confirmed paypal address which is located in Canada. I live in Hong Kong right now because of my work. I can changed my ebay shipping address no problem.

My problem right now is changing the shipping address in paypal. The only address I am allowed to add must be in Canada (they don't allow me to change the country). I do have a HK address in my paypal but it was my old HK address, I don't know how I got that one on paypal, I can't even locate that address anymore but it is the address displayed to the seller.

So now when I make a purchase, I have conflicting shipping addresses (ebay and paypal) which is a pain **********.
