Low cost prescriptions

For those that don't have drug coverage (or have parents that lack this benefit), look into the $4.00 plans being offered by Walmart/Sam's, Target and K-Mart pharmacies. My parents are on Medicare and have no drug coverage. They are able to get their pravastatin (similar/same class drug as Lipitor) for only $4.00/month. Mom is also able to get her blood pressure medication and thyroid replacement for $4.00 each for a month supply. Walmart/Sam's also has two different generic birth control pill formulations for $9.00/month; I suspect Target and K-Mart will follow with that too. You check on the link below for the $4.00 formulary at Walmart; Target's is almost the same. By the way, I do not have any interest in any of the above mentioned stores (financial or otherwise); this is not spam.

I recently got a $4 perscription at WalMart. I think that Walmart is the sign of the antichrist but that price on the perscriptions can't be beat... I wish some other pharmacies would do that. Edit: I think the medications are all generics (not that that's bad)

... it's a stop-gap until the pending Pharmaceutical apocalypse known as Universal Healthcare hits America. I doubt Pharmacists will be making $100K+ a year anymore. ::Sarcasm ::

... only 100K a year. No pharmacist would work for that (not in California anyway)!

I am sure that Walmart, Target and K-Mart are loosing money from their pharmacies. The really expensive drugs have hardly any mark-up from wholesale and now they are practically giving away the cheaper generics. They count on people buying other things when they come in to pick up their drugs.

Yeah,

I can't see trends continuing without a major correction like universal health care. If it doesn't happen, no one wins.

Down here in FL, Publix supermarkets supply a number of prescription generics (typically antibiotics) for free.

Generics are cheap as dirt to make as well. IIRC, Minocycline and other antibiotics are like 2.50 for a month supply. I may be wrong on my figures but a lot of the generic pills are about 17 cents a pill. Walmart and Giant Eagle and places like that are using the $4 perscriptions as a break-even or loss leader to get you into the store, but it's not like they're losing lots of money on it in any case.
