^^ I've rarely had a problem with customs holding the package and I'd say 9 of 10 items I got from PSUK arrived in 1 day as scheduled. I think this jacket might have gotten onto customs radar since I had to fax back a form to clear it from customs. The other stuff I've bought recently I had no problem with customs so I'm hoping this is a 1 shot exception rather than a new rule.

Lucky, mine was held on customs for 2 weeks without any information. If Zippy didn't provide me with a number to call, it wouldn't have been processed. I think the problem is with clothing though, mine was held in customs because they needed to know where the jacket was manufactured, they needed the address factory it was made from. That took another several days before it got cleared and several more days before it got to me.

I guess it was just bad luck in my part.

apparently, not sure if this is new for 2009+ or what, the customs charge for garments is at 19.6% with an addtl $25 "processessing" fee, plus a $5 "we prepaid your customs bill for you" fee. This is according to the customs agent I spoke with on the phone.

You talk to Customs or Fedex broker?
I'm pretty sure that the $25 + $5 are Fedex fees.

Clothing has relatively high tariffs.
See 6201.93.25 in here
http://www.usitc.gov/publications/do...er/0910c62.pdf

Socks end up being relatively high cost too. I ended up paying something like 35% on them.

That's why I've just been sticking to shoes when ordering from PS UK.
It's something like 8.5%.

that's correct, those are fedex fees added to the actual customs fee

earlier this year I bought 2 or 3 shirts, a watch, sunglasses and 1 pair shoes, and only 1 of those items (shoes iirc) got a customs charge. so in the end, I've made out better than worse, but this current bill just kinda hits hard at once.

That's what sucks though. The whole point of having to pay Fedex the $25 + $5 is so it doesn't take forever to get through customs.

The credit card I used also charged me with a foreign transaction fee to add to the overall cost of ordering from UK. I believe it was around 5%-6% of total order.

That's because the Corsos at Barney's are suede. Brown dip dye, but suede none the less. There have been other models in this material.

So I went to Neiman Marcus Bellevue (was in the area) ready to hear about it? Awesome. First off, the place is massive (probably not but felt larger than Macy's at Bell Square), three stories and a parking structure that's like a bottomless pit (3 levels and each level is huge, kept getting lost... and the entrance is a pain **********, from 110th after you turn in there's this little turn that looks more like a service alleyway than a real lane but that's where you have to go (the signage is small and the first time I passed this little thing). It was a bit overwhelming when I first walked in since the place was a madhouse, no directory or anything that would indicate where to find anything (and I hate walking around clueless). First floor is womenswear, second is accessories (very large jewelry section) and cosmetics, third floor is menswear and a home dÃ

. The best news is that the website is wrong! They carry PS shoes. They only had a few sneakers and the moc boot [$525] shown below (from what I saw, and I look around for a while) but there's hope that they'll order more. The people shopping there were rather amusing to watch/listen to (no doubt they were lured by the stupid Seattle Times ad). As I was in the shoes section I heard a guy explaining to two of his friends that TI had a pair of these Prada sneakers in black and that he wanted to get them. The male SAs were kind of crappily dressed, most of the ones I saw were wearing really badly fitting suits. But they were nonetheless helpful and friendly (although there was one who was a complete ass, while I was looking at a cardigan he wanted to get something above me for another customer and rather than ask me to move he tries to reach over me, fails because he's too short, and then proceeds to glare at me until I moved). They had a lot of Y-3, Theory , and a few PS London pieces scattered around (a few coats, didn't see any shirts or suits). They also have sections for Loro Piana, Kiton + Brioni, Armani Collezioni, and Zegna

I dunno, I kind of feel like it's going to be really hard for them to survive. How many people on the Eastside even know what Brioni is, much less wear it?

I think the store will do okay. It's the women's wear that's important. All those Eastside ladies who lunch won't have to go downtown now and it gives them another option besides Nordstrom. Besides, the NM cafe is probably better than the Nordstrom one. Also, there really isn't any competition for men's wear on the Eastside. Nordstrom has started carrying a few somewhat interesting pieces (Rag & Bone, MMM, Varvatos, Paul Smith) at Bellevue Square but it's hidden away by the suits on the second floor and the selection is very limited.

NM is promoting the hell out of that store though. They sent my wife and I $50 use by end of September gift cards a couple weeks ago.

Personally I'm most interested in the John Howie steak place that's opening.

And damn, PS finally came out with a new boot that is a must have for me... The dip-dye Bihar, some of you guys hate the rubber soles some but this has been what I am waiting for. I've been looking for a cap-toe style boots too.

Bihar is a Paul Smith Mainline work wear style boot. The grained leather has had oil put back into it, resulting in a slightly wrinkled pre-worn look. The side seam detail and toe cap add to the chunkier silhouette.
PS has redeemed themselves with the Bihar boots, at least in my books.

Briefly entertained the idea of buying a pair of brown Starrs today for about 209 (I think?) before realizing there's no way I could 'hide' a 200 dollar purchase. Sigh.
