How do you keep motivated to go to the gym?

OK. If like me, you have been going to a gym for years (for me its more than 10 years), I am sure you will feel jaded at some stage.

In the past, I motivate myself by reading Flex magazine, absorbing their routines, techniques and diet tips and marvelling at their breath taking specimens of men-hood. I really do.

To motivate myself now, I even cut down working sets to 3 instead of 5 of more to still get the pump. By doing that, I dont dread going to the gym. In the past, legs was a balls bursting incline leg presses followed by squats followed by lunges. My legs will be sore for 6 days and recover just before my next legs workout.

But other pressing concerns are pulling away my time from the gym and when I do go to gym, its for an hour plus, much to the neglect of my arms workout.

When I take time off, I dont have the extra excitement of going back to the gym.

So lets hear it: What do you do to motivate yourself to go to gym?

I work out three times a week. I am a Democrat.
If I do not sign in at the gym three times a week, I have a signed check for $100 that my trainer will mail to the RNC.
No excuses except death of self or immediate family.

But I do not know what you have against these law abiding, fine, upstanding human beings. They arent exactly rapists and muggers.
They are just like you and me. Normal human beings aspiring to be the best that they can be.

And if you want to be the best in something, you should follow the example of the current best in their respective fields. If you want to be the best tennis player in the world, you should follow Rog Fed but not some loser who have to sleep in his car because he cant win a match to save his life.

I tell you that the thing that keeps me motivated is de-training, or rather the fear that I would lose everything I've worked hard for if I stop training.

the way I look, and the way my girlfriend wants me to look. Also, it's like wasting an investment- if you don't train, it reverses.

If I don't go to the gym, I find myself annoyed at the little things. The gym helps me sleep and keeps my stress levels down. Plus , it's fun.

I'm a very feedback driven person. Once I saw progress, I couldn't stop because it'd be a shame to lose what I have after having worked so hard for it.

Eventually when you workout long/hard enough it becomes a part of you daily routine, like sleeping and eating amirite

^ Yes. I don't have to motivate myself to go to the gym because I never choose to go to the gym. I simply go when it's time, the same way I find myself in class every day regardless of how I'm feeling.

I've been wearing more trim fitted clothing. I must work out for it to fit correctly.

I also like the view at my gym, lots of cute things around.

I feel so much better when I do work out and I remind myself of that.

I keep my bag packed everyday and by the door.

If its the way your girlfriend wants you to look, very soon she would want you to look less big/chunky/bulky/stumpy.

You seem to have quite the predilection for overgrown bodybuilders.

What does overgrown means here?

Also, I forgot WATCHING PUMPING IRON. Anybody seen my blue T-shirt? Since somebody else mentioned it, I should say that if I don't work out, I get crazy/pissy. I joke all the time about roid raging if I can't get my workouts in with my coworkers, but it's completely true. If I don't work out enough (3x/wk) because I've been busy, I will get cranky, depressed, and generally unpleasent. It helps that my job is in a gym, and I almost always have time to get some kind of workout in.
