patriots vs. steelers

This might be the week where the patriots finally lose. Pittsburg is coming off a bye week. And, their rookie QB is playing like a reincarnation of Dan Marino right now.

umm, are you kidding me? Rookie QB playing the pats defense? The pats terrorized Manning, McNair, and Pennington, think about what they'll do to this kid? Pats should win easily, the first game that I am worried about is next week against the Rams, then the pats play the Chiefs, Ravens, and at NY later this season, those games are much more worrisome than the Steelers. Pats roll easily.

Wow, NE is playing unbelievably bad... BR is not doing too well but NE is giving him a very short field and lots of defensive pts.

How are you watching the game right now? The only game I'm seeing is SD Chargers vs. Oakland Raiders. One of the great things about losing footbal was LA was supposed to be able to watch any football games, regardless of blackouts. I don't know why, but the NFL treats LA like its a secondary market to SD, so we always end up with games with SD playing. It used to be real entertaining when SD had Ryan Leaf, and you'd watch to see how bad it could get. But, now, they're attempting to be a serious team. I still cannot believe SD was so snakebitten by Ryan Leaf that they traded away their rights to Michael Vick, the most electric and exciting player in the NFL.

I would rather have LT and Brees than Vick personally. As for the the game, it was showing NE/Pit earlier before the game got out of hand, they may go back to it soon.

When SD traded the rights for Vick, they got real lucky when they got to pick up Brees in the second round. They didn't know, and probably didn't expect, him to still be available. As good as LT has been, SD has still been a really horrible team until this year. Sure, he'll get 100 yards but his team still lost those games. With Vick, you can see how valuable he is by comparing Atlanta's record with him playing vs. him not playing. They went from beating Green Bay at home in the playoffs in his first year playing to not even getting close the following year when he got injured. I still think if you have the choice between QB and running back, you always go for the QB if you think he's the right one. The right QB is harder to find and will usually last longer than the RB. The only problem is that you need a year or two to develop the QB, whereas the RB can usually contribue right away. LT missed part of training camp, and was able to step right in when the season started.

I would disagree with that, Vick hasn't developed as a QB in this league. While he's exciting, he doesn't win games for his team, Atlanta has won this year because of defense, not because of Vick. San Diego has been bad because they can't stop anyone, not because their offense has been bad. While Brees hasn't played wonderfully, they haven't had the talent at WR until this year to really compete, Gates has really been the key for their offense though. While you can build a team around a franchise QB, Vick isn't that franchise QB. He is exciting and can win games with his legs, but he isn't Peyton Manning, or Brett Favre.

Bree's wasn't just not playing okay. He was downright terrible, although he is playing much better this year. He ended up getting benched last years to Doug Flutie, who is at least 40 years old. It wasn't just their defense that was horrible; it was everything. And, yes, Vick hasn't reached his potential yet. And, that's the scary thing cause his upside is so huge. Keep in mind, the number of games he's played is still not that much more than a rookie. And, already, he can win games by himself. I watched him play against SD, where he hadn't playing even good all game. All of a sudden, in the fourth quarter, he becomes the equivalent of MJ in football. In that quarter, he won the game with his electric speed and his arm strength. I'm not sure if the West Coast offense is helping him. It seems to be constraining him this year.

It doesn't matter how many pts Vick can score, if his team can't play defense, they will lose, see the KC game. Even if Vick was superman for all four quarters they would have lost because they couldn't stop the run. My point is that SD got Brees, Tomlinson, Reche Caldwell, and the pick that was traded for David Boston (which turned into more draft picks and Jamar Fletcher) Basically what it means is that they got THREE starters plus draft picks for the 1st overall pick. The Chargers with Vick would be a terrible team, they wouldn't have a running game, receivers, or defense.

I gotta give christian props for this call -- perhaps he should stick to football prognostication.   drizz, how much did this game cost you?

I think we can all agree that Pittsburg was the one that easily won this game. The game had already been decided by the end of the first quarter. Pats Steelers Total yards 248 417 Turnovers 4 0 Possesion 17.02 42.58 And, I cannot believe that you aren't giving Big Ben any love. He was 18/24, 2 TDs, and no interceptions. For a pass completion % of 75%, and avg. 8.2 yards/pass. Ambulance Chaser, this is will probably be my only football prediction. I want to finish on top. But, this was just one of those games I knew was going to be a big upset- the game was at home for Pitt, they had a bye week to prepare for NE, and their QB was really impressing me. Plus, NE margin of victory was shrinking each week and they had just finished a tough game agaisnt NY Jets filled with hype. I figured there would be a letdown after a victory like that. Even though I didn't say it, I also knew that the Giants were going to beat the Vikings. I can't wait for next week's game with Steelers playing the Eagles. TO became my favorite player with his parody of the Ray Lewis dance right in front of Ray Lewis. And, I can't believe anybody would be afraid of Baltimore right now. Ravens have a good defense, but their rookie QB is really playing like a rookie right now. I can't believe that Billick is supposed to be some offensive genius.

Ambulance, about $500 but it's ok because I had $1k on both the Chargers and the over on that game... christian: I think the Pats with Dillon would have won that game, but they tried to change their game plan too much, injuries finally caught up with NE. I still don't think BR is a great QB, although he does have good tools, Law going down early in the first quarter was pretty much the key for him today.

Okay, whaddya guys think about the Eagles/Steelers game next week? Birds have been slowing down and not winning decisively, and have not faced a lot of good, full-strength teams. Steelers have got to have a lot of confidence right now. As an Iggles fan, I'm concerned.

Personally, I think the Ravens will be good once they get back Jamal next week, and they should roll going forward, their defense is definitely for real. As for the Eagles, I think they win against the Steelers but it could be close...

While I think the unbeaten streak is impressive, to me the Dolphins streak is still more special to win every game within a single season. This Patriots streak felt like a Tiger slam, instead of a grand slam. And, I still would have been afraid of Steelers compared to Rams or Chiefs. The Rams are too inconsistent. And, the Chiefs offense finally woke up in the last two weeks while their defense still sucks. When you're saying you wouldn't trade your draft picks, are you saying specifically for Vick or any franchise QB? If you have Vick, then he compensates for a porous offensive line. And, you need a good QB to maximize a wide receiver. That's why TO didn't want to go to Baltimore. The reason the Dallas' trading away Hershel Walker worked so well wasn't just the number of picks they got, but what they did with those picks. I believe Baltimore got a king's randsom for trading away John Elway, and they weren't able to build a team from those players.
