I ate Kangaroo meat last night

My fiancee prepared it with a marsala and onion glaze. It was absolutely delicious. Much better than I expected, much like a very lean steak but a little sweeter.

I had a chance to eat kangaroo meat a while back, but I passed it up for a medium rare elk steak. It was absolutely delicious--lean, sweet, and just slightly gamey. There are just too many good meats out there man. Eat 'em all and don't look back.

Me and a couple of other Australians were talking about this the other night actually. When we were kids, kangaroo meat was sold minced dirt cheap at the butchers for feeding to the dogs. About 10 years or so ago, Australian chefs kinda rediscovered it. Started marinating it longer and cooking it very slowly, and yup, it came out delicious, and its price went through the roof accordingly. It is also apparently the leanest red meat available. Very healthy. Roo Meat: It's Not Just For Rover Anymore

It was the leanest I've ever seen and I've eaten a lot of red meats.

big fan of roo meat ... had wallaby in tassie a couple of weeks back, but it was tough (due to overcooking) ... so will have to try it again at a place where they know how to cook these meats...

...had kangaroo prosciutto in Sydney once and that was absolutely delicious ...have not been able to find it in Melbourne though...which is a damn shame

Wow, I'll have to try it when I go to Australia. Sounds like it would be really good.

When I was working in Germany I went to a restaurant that served a kangaroo, ostrich, and alligator plate. The kangaroo and ostrich were damn tasty.

Sounds interesting, gonna give it a try.

Btw has anyone tried ostrich meat? I tried it a la hot pot style. Its like slimy pork and not much taste to it, maybe I should've had it as a cutlet stir fried instead.

I ate dog meat before.

Ostrich is fantastic meat. Marginally lower in protein than other red meats perhaps, but also significantly lower in saturated fats. Marinate it and cook it as quickly as you can otherwise it goes beyond tough.
