Hey guys. I'm looking for either pea coats or car coats that look something like these (with what appears to be a slimmer and lengthier look)

However, the problem is that I really don't know my size! I check on ebay and they only have sizes M/L/XL/S/ETC.

For the most part I wear medium shirts (t-shirts and just shirts in general). But I'm always unsure if a Large can possibly look better than a medium on me, im not sure if that's the case. And the thing I fear the most is that if I get the wrong size, it will look bad on me and i'm out X amount of dollars.

I'm 5"9' 154lbs, slenderish build but I've been toning up for more of an athletic build (I just used to be bleh but I've been dropping weight).

This gets me to thinking that it could be possible that I might end up wearing "small" sized clothing too in the coming weeks/months. And I don't want my future jacket to become too big on me.

How would I go about finding the right size for me to wear, who do I see? I wouldn't mind going to retail stores that sell these coats so I can see what I look like in them, but I don't know of many places (or any).

My budget is around $150ish and the ones I found on ebay are selling for slightly less (I wanted to get that top gray one but it's only size is large and the GAP that could sell them is in another state.

So if anyone could help me with my sizing dilemma as well as where I can get similar coats like these that are not pricey, that would be great.

Thanks!

best things to do would be to:

1. try on arbitrarily sized clothing (aka not in inches/centimeters) at the mall, or a local store.

2. buy online, try it on, ship back if it doesn't fit to exchange for smaller/bigger size. the sacrifice of shipping/time is necessary if you don't have a local retailer nearby.

3. ask future fit questions in the small questions thread pinned up at the top of the forum. there are also many previous threads that you can SEARCH for, they provide a wealth of information regarding sizing on many different brand types. peacoat and carcoat brands that have been suggested include schott, sterlingwear, and many others.

4. i'm just slightly shorter than you, and weigh slightly less. i wear a size S in most things. seems like you're right on the S/M border, so you will probably have to try most things on to figure out the S/M issue.

I'd be willing to bet that you should be a small, unless you have some crazy bone structure or something.

I got pretty abnormal ribs (I got a pretty big ribcage). I dunno, 4 months ago I was wearing large shirts and whatnot, i've lost so much weight and bodyfat since then I just think that medium is the new standard for me. I don't ever recall wearing smalls ever (unless it was my freshman year of highschool about 8 years ago. You might be right though, I'll check this out tomorrow.

Thanks for the help

That frame sounds like a small. I wear medium and I am 5'10 170 and I have a barrel chest, too. The only issue with a small may be the arms might be short for ya.
