I'm happy because a friend made me a mixtape. We're both a bit nerdy about music.

Is it an actual tape, or just a digital playlist (which is also cool)? Making actual mixtapes was a time-consuming PITA back in the day.

How's the weather in 1986?

I did the best to lighten the moment with a tip of my glass and a, "hey, I could say the same thing to you."

Also, the bride was very pregnant at the time, if that makes the story any more amusing.

but then again, i put myself up a tree on a regular basis and when that happens i can really freak out. some folks are much better at putting on a good face and seeing those things through. not i.

I knew it was going to be tough (and that I wouldn't kill the toast), but I didn't even consider not doing it. I just tried to view it as supporting my friend, because this thing was happening with or without me.

For what it's worth, before he took the plunge, he came to me looking for earnest feedback this time around.

Especially if you were trying to capture that shit off the radio.

It's Guns N Roses day!

I know I'm supposed to be all cynical and amused by fat Axl and the reunion, but I just can't help but be anything but super stoked. GnR has been a favorite band of mine since I was a kid, and this is the first time they've toured as anything remotely resembling the "real" lineup since I was old enough to start going to concerts. I legitimately never thought this day would come.

Also, some friends are passing through tomorrow on vacation, and they're stopping to have dinner with us. The husband runs a wholesale meat business, and he's bringing a bunch of stuff for us. He just sent me a pic of what he's bringing, and as of tomorrow my freezer will be stocked with a huge brisket, a whole ribeye, about half a dozen pork chop lollipops, and the same number of cowboy ribeyes.

Fat Axl is major dipshit, but that's neither here nor there. I've heard that his voice has held up pretty well, and Slash is Slash. Enjoy.

Is it the sound of grunting and toilets being clogged?

Just a playlist. It's pretty cool. They put Iggy, Bowie, Pink Floyd, and Lou Reed on it. I'm happy with it. I made them one in return.

I made a few actual mixtapes on cassette as a very small child, and it really was time-consuming! It kept me busy. Later on I moved on to CD mixes, and eventually in 2008 or so I moved on to playlists. I was very, very late to the game.

That's because you're playing it backward. Duh.

Haven't thought about the Beat Farmers in a long time. Saw them play at some small place in the East Ba with Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper 25ish years ago.

Then my friend and I drank with Skid and Mojo.

And then it gets a bit hazy.

The Beat Farmers put on an excellent show. And "Gun Show At The Church" is one hell of a song.
