It's funny how we take those kinds of things for granted. This week the tank refill valve in our downstairs toilet died (wouldn't stop filling, so we had to shut off the water at the wall) and it took me a couple of days to get over to Home Depot to pick up a new refill valve, although installing the new valve was a five-minute job. Those two days without a downstairs toilet were tough, let me tell you.

Back in the mid 80s I lived in an old ranch house that didn't have a bathroom or kitchen when I moved in. That stuff got built posthaste.

Driving in Nashville isn't as stop and go traffic as it is in the northeastern cities..it's smooth enough of a drive that I can eat a breakfast sandwich/burrito easily while driving a manual transmission into the city.

Today there was a lot of highway construction and it was stop and go traffic galore and my wife immediately knew the situation so she fed me the breakfast burrito while I reacquainted myself with constant use of the clutch.

Okay look gang one of the reasons I'm proud to be a St. Louisan is that when we do wrong, we hold ourselves accountable don't try to deflect blang. When the Cardinals scouting director hacked into the Astros' computer system help make better drafting decisions, the Cardinals put him in jail for four years. When the Yankeeds or Dodgers have executives breaking the law of the land of hacking you never even hear about it because they go into cover up mode straightaway.

We were supposed to be preparing for a 50-miler with the scouts today (to head out tomorrow), but a bunch of last minute dropouts led us to cancel last week. So now my calendar at work is almost totally free. I may head out after lunch and go for a long trail run by Folsom Lake, since the weather is expected to be in the mid 80s today. Excellent.

Gots to say, I respect that Bon Jovi let himself go gray. Mick J and Paul McC ain't fooling anybody with the Just for Men look. (Okay that's hyperbole... Mick Jagger must be fooling at least one person.)

Update: it turned out that the temperature climbed healthily into the 90s. I had a decent run, but the heat got to me and I had to walk the last half mile back to the car. So that was only okay.
