things that are making you happy - Page 3700

my 18 month old kid isn't talking yet (maybe a couple words) but he understands much of what we say.

i asked him for a smooch on my cheek and he just beetle-browed me. i think the beard is the issue.

and then when i wasn't looking he planted one right on my nose.

:inlove:

With all the well deserved shit that Priuses and Prius drivers get, there is one thing about them that makes me happy. The rear has a transparent panel where you can actually see THROUGH the car and see what's in front of it.

Why don't all automakers do this? Sure, every once in awhile you might catch someone jacking it while going down the highway, but that's the only downside. This would be the auto industry's greatest gift to mankind since they cancelled Pontiac

Long live King Federer.

This does surprise me somewhat.

My issue with Ryan Adams is the same one I have with a lot of those singer-songwriter types: They're so prolific that their catalogues aren't very dense. You have to own like three albums to get a full album's worth of great tracks, but, man, are the great ones great.

Todd Snider is another one like that for me.

My cousin is about to go to college, and his mom just posted on facebook about what kind of laptop they should get him. Something like "Planning on studying sciences, which operating system? does it matter?"

I am getting quite a kick out of watching old women try to give tech advice.

"Mac will work best with research software."

"Well, both my kids had computers with 4gb of ram and 128gb storage and they were just fine"

"You should get this deal because it comes with a pair of Beats headphones ($299 value)!"

Wait, there actually is a Ryan Adams? I thought you guys were misspelling (inadvertently or whimsically) Bryan Adams.

The only thing you need a computer in college for is typing. If you're doing any serious programming etc, theyll have a math lab with the programs already on it (they'll be too expensive for everyone to purchase for personal use)

I definitely torrented Stata in college. I think I looked the license up and it's a $10k program :wow:

Bullshit.  The most expensive version for students is $1000 for a perpetual license, but what you would need it for at school the $100-200 versions should be plenty

You'll want a good graphics card for WoW and other games. You'll also need an AI and some powered studio monitors so you can be a laptop DJ with Ableton or other DAW. So you want a fair amount of RAM for this, probably a controller surface of some kind, and internal ROM would be nice but easy to get external these days to augment.
