@otc, this building must be pretty crappy or something, no?  $158k seems dirt cheap for all that square footage ($83/sq ft), even if it is going to require a lot of work.

Damn, that thing really is making the rounds isn't it?

That article is missing the condo dues of almost $800 a month. For about the same monthly price of mortgage+dues, you could be buying a $400k house somewhere with no HOA (granted, the hoa dues include exterior maintenance, trash, etc).

Pretty far from downtown and not really close to major public transit....I bet you can get lots of good deals in that neighborhood. In our local reddit, someone recalled that building as "Cabrini Greenberg"...maybe it just because of the very high jewish population in that part of town, but I would be suspect of any place that is nicknamed after a terrible failed housing project.

And Jesus...$30 a month for heated garage parking? I pay more than that to be allowed to wedge my motorcycle in an unusable corner of my building's garage.

Not sure I could live in a place with a shabbat elevator though. The combination of wastefulness and absolute absurdity just wouldn't sit well with me.

No joke my buddies truck got side swiped by a guy doing that exact same thing.  I was meeting him at a bar and heard the crash.  People were outside and saw it and when I walked up they were all laughing at the guy (with magazines flying out of his car)  The driver hit about 4 parked cars.

I'm union and it's all negotiated in a contract. Time and a half pay for overtime, comp at the same time and a half rate. Option to "flex" time if you choose to at  an hour for hour exchange. We have the option to use any of those choices. Double time for work between midnight and seven AM providing start time of double time work is prior to six AM with the same options. Two hour minimum call back pay if not on call or standby.

Public Drinking Water System Operator for a special district. All field and non confidential admin employees at the district work under the same contract. We are members of the Teamsters. The union rarely shows up for anything but contract negotiations but are happy to take our dues every pay period.
