The first bikes the wife and I got in NYC was at Bicycle Habitat in SoHo and we were total newbs about it. The sales girl was salivating because we bought all the accessories off the bat: two hybrid bikes
(helmets/racks/fenders/locks/bikes/ect) we even did the stupid "bike seat security chain" (which is just an old fucking chain with old inner tube around it). I remember paying like 75% over amazon pricing for those fucking kyroptonite locks
anyway like total newbs the wife and I literally bought the bikes and all our shit and asked for NYC bike maps and opened them wide and made our way back to brooklyn from soho. it was only a 30min ride but my ass and legs hurt going over the williamsburg bridge, and the wife rode on the sidewalk
when we got to metropolitan street to avoid buses/out of fear.
it only took a week of riding to get over the fear though... later that month we rode all the way to fucking Coney Island . And were making Govenors Island and Manhattan runs almost every weekend.
